[opensuse] Thunderbird trouble
Hi, Since a recent update of Thunderbird and glibc on 12.1 I am experiencing trouble with Thunderbird. Thunderbird does not consistently receive new mail and gets stuck in "Loading Message..." state. I have three mail accounts set up in Thunderbird all are IMAP accounts. When Thunderbird gets stuck and I attach gdb it appears to be sitting in poll(). 0x00007f3db5b91ff3 in poll () from /lib64/libc.so.6 But that would be the main thread, thus this may be expected and useless information. One way I have found I can reproduce the problem is to delete a message from my Gmail account through my phone. If I switch to the gmail mailbox in Thunderbird prior to "bold display of the Inbox" (bold text indicates and unread message) disappearing then Thunderbird will get stuck. My guess would be that some error condition is not properly handled in this case as the message is gone from the server. But Thunderbird also gets stuck for "no apparent reason". With this I mean that it will just refuse to get new mail or refuse to load and display an unread message. # zypper info MozillaThunderbird Loading repository data... Reading installed packages... Hi,
Since a recent update of Thunderbird and glibc on 12.1 I am experiencing trouble with Thunderbird.
Thunderbird does not consistently receive new mail and gets stuck in "Loading Message..." state. I have three mail accounts set up in Thunderbird all are IMAP accounts.
When Thunderbird gets stuck and I attach gdb it appears to be sitting in poll().
0x00007f3db5b91ff3 in poll () from /lib64/libc.so.6
But that would be the main thread, thus this may be expected and useless information.
With this I mean that it will just refuse to get new mail or refuse to load and display an unread message.
...
Anyone else experiencing issues?
I've seen it a number of times. Not sure it started after the latest update. I believe I've seen it during the last month. If I close TB in this state, some process stays active, so I have to kill it and then after restarting TB everything is OK again. -- Mark Goldstein -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Yes, I have noticed this as well. Exiting the application in this state kills the GUI, but the thunderbird process remains running. Robert

There was an issue matching that description with Thunderbird 11.0 and therefore 11.0.1 was released. If you still see that it's something new or unknown. I also have several IMAP account in TB but haven't seen that with 11.0 or 11.0.1. Today 12.0 is released (at least from my repo; openSUSE need a few days for maintenance cycle) and it would be interesting if it's still an issue there. Interestingly enough I do not recall this issue with 11.0 on my machine.

Will 12.0 automatically show up as an update in the updates repo for 12.1? If yes, I'll wait for a couple of days. BTW, I have noticed that if I am patient enough thunderbird will eventually recover and get out of its funky state. It will then operate as expected for a while before re-entering "Neverland". Yes. If it still occurs with the new version we can debug further. Wolfgang -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

In order to debug it what would be the procedure?
Are the following steps correct or am I missing something?
1) Install

OK, installed Thunderbird 12.0 packages over the weekend. Unfortunately I have to report that the issue persists, although it appears to be less frequent. In addition a new issue started to appear. I now get apopup window informing me that some scripts do not finish. I captured 2 - chrome://messenger/content/folderPane.js:758 - chrome://messenger/content/msgMail3PaneWindow.js:1127 There is at least one more, I didn't capture it. I suspect it will come back ;) And last but not least, text in the compose window is disappearing, i.e. not properly painted. It is still there and when I send the message and get a copy the text is there. It only disappears during composition. This has been happening for a while.
