[opensuse] Nvidia driver corrupts text consoles (10.3)

I just upgraded my daughter's laptop (HP Compaq Presario V6133CL) to the 10.3 (from 10.2). I installed the nvidia driver from the added nvidia yast source, which got the nvidia display working with no problems, BUT I cannot switch to a text console (tty1-6, 10). It just turns into a color confetti. Switching back to tty7 gives me back a correct graphical display, but if it goes into powersave mode, it also corrupts the graphical (though switching to tty1 and back to 7 corrects this). I installed the 169.12 driver, and even tried the 173.08 beta but no success. Her laptop has a GeForce Go 6150. I am not certain, but I don't remember this happening with 10.2 but I am not certain. Googling and searching on the opensuse.org site haven't located any answers. Seems quite a different experience to others I have heard here with nvidia. It seems it is a bug (long standing?) with the nvidia driver, but surely someone has found a work around or something. I already tried changing the vga mode in the grub line to normal, with no change in the video corruption. Appreciate any ideas. Hello, I've got this problem a long time ago, there is a long discussion in the nvidia forum : http://www.nvnews.net . As far as I can remember, either you've to disable tvout or you've to use a 800x600 bootsplash. Will try to remember.
