[opensuse] configure fonts in KMail

Yup, I get that too when I uncheck the "Use custom fonts" checkbox. It's at the top of the KMail "Settings" -> "Appearence" -> "Fonts"-tab.

I'm using a 19" CRT Trinitron, which has good resolution, but the characters are rather tiny. That's also true of an outgoing message, like this one.
For each part-of-window do: select part-of-window with "Apply to"-combobox, select font, font-style, and font-size; After changing all the parts-of-window you wish, click [OK]. That should do it. There does not seem to be such a "part of windows" selection in 9.3. I tried everything I could think of, but this message (and your original answer) always comes out in very small print. Altho I did see a section that called for "message list" and "message body" and some other stuff, but whatever I feed in there does not seem to have any effect. This is because the "use custom fonts" option is not checked. 1) Go to "Settings" menu. 2) Choose "Configure Kmail" 3) In the Configure Kmail window, select the "Appearance" panel. 4) Near the top of this window you will see this checkbox. Once it is checked, you will be able to adjust font settings. Thanx. This machine has had a habit of doing that. Sometimes it gets _years_ out of date! Well, it's partway there. Now I have good sized fonts _sometimes_ but definitely not always. Here I'm getting good fonts, I could even use a smaller font, but not a terribly smaller font, but it doesn't seem to follow to the next email, or even to re-opening the old email. This is because the "use custom fonts" option is not checked.
1) Go to "Settings" menu. 2) Choose "Configure Kmail" 3) In the Configure Kmail window, select the "Appearance" panel. 4) Near the top of this window you will see this checkbox.
Once it is checked, you will be able to adjust font settings.

Configure NTP in Yast > Network services. NTP will correct the time automatically on a periodic basis. Google on NTP servers, to find one to use. Also, make sure your monitor's dimensions are set correctly in your X settings (sax2). X uses those to calculate what DPI your display has, and if it guesses too low, your fonts will appear too small. In 10.2 we've added a feature to the KControl->Appearance->Fonts config to allow you to hardwire a DPI, for people where SaX/xorg.conf is outside their control, or just too scary, so you could experiment with that too. The size of the Message body is set by selecting "Message Body" in the Appearence -> Fonts -> "Apply to:" combobox (remember red circle?), and subsequently choosing a larger font size. The quoted text initially appears smaller that the rest of the message body. Uncheck the "Use smaller font for quoted text"-checkbox on Appearence -> "Message Window". Well, it doesn't work that way. What I mean is, I guess what you call the "message body" i.e., what appears on the monitor when you access an email and try to read it, and what I mean has nothing to do with "quoted text" but what I write when I create an email. It turns out that when I _reply_ to an email, as I am doing now, the text is a nice readable size. Maybe that's what _you_ mean by "quoted text." I guess I managed to modify KMail to do that much, but I can't seem to get the _incoming mail text_ to a readable size. I bet this comes up on your screen in a fairly good sized font. But if I just sent you a message without it being a reply, it would come up on my screen in half the height and width, just as the incoming mail does. BTW, there does not seem to be any way to check or uncheck "use smaller font for quoted text" in 9.3, and I would not want it to do so anyway. Text, whether quoted or unquoted all comes out the same very small size. On a 19" monitor, it must be about maybe 8 point or 9 point. What I'm writing in, now, since it is _reply_, not new message, is probably about 14 point. "quoted text" is the text with "> " in front of it. ">" is usually used as quote character, sometimes people use different characters, e.g. "|" or "+".

Yes, a new window pops up, that's called the "Composer". "Composer" is also one of the entries in the "Apply to"-combobox.
Maybe that's what _you_ mean by "quoted text." I guess I managed to modify KMail to do that much, but I can't seem to get the _incoming mail text_ to a readable size.
_incoming mail text_: when you click on a message header (or subject) in the "Message List", the text of that mail ("Message Body") is shown in the "Message Body"-pane. "Message List" and "Message Body" are also entries in the "Apply to"-combo box.

Ok, maybe you have an older KMail. Mine is 1.9.5.
