I have a small home LAN, with a computer within the LAN acting as mail server (for historical reasons). The gateway machine for the LAN is a SuSE linux box (8.1), and I want to be able to use balsa on this machine for occasional mailing. I have got balsa set up to read email from the server via IMAP with no problems. However, I can't get the sending side sorted. I believe that I need to configure the "mail transfer agent" section of YaST2 to get this working. Can anyone please tell me what I need to do? The system works fine using evolution, which allows me to specify an smtp server which the program itself uses to send emails. However, I'd rather use balsa. It also works fine under Windows, using Outlook Express. In both cases, the simple default settings for smtp work, I just can't get postfix sorted. What have you done yourself to find out? E.g. read the Postfix documentation etc.? Theo -- Theo v. Werkhoven Registered Linux user# 99872 http://counter.li.org ICBM 52 8 24N , 4 32 40E. SuSE 8.0 x86 Kernel 2.4.16-4GB See headers for PGP/GPG info.

<sigh> I've read the config files (including main.cf), I've looked at the Postfix website, I've searched the net for config advice. To no avail. I've tried every configuration that seems sensible using the YaST config tool, even though there aren't that many options, and I've tried editing main.cf by hand. The problem is that I don't understand how it all fits together. It seems to me that all I ought to need to do is set the outgoing smtp server to be my mailserver, then balsa ought to be able just to send the email to postfix, which will pass it on to the server. But this doesn't seem to work when I've tried it. Hence my query. I don't need any mail collection because my mail server does this and so the linux box just uses IMAP. All I need is to relay all sent email from the linux box to the mail server at 192.168.0.2 via SMTP. Do I understand correctly that you already have a mailserver, but don't know how to get Balsa to talk to it? You don't need another mailserver then, you just need to setup Balsa correctly. Please be (a lot) more verbose about exactly /what/ is not working, errors you're getting, relevant log snips etc. Theo -- Theo v.
