On my Tumbleweed system with KDE6 I see files in Recent Files. For example, if I open a file in Dolphin, that file is then at the top of the list of recent files as shown in the Start Menu. Which Start menu style are you using? Maybe all three do not act the same. I am exploring the Dashboard these days. (I'm not convinced. But that's a different topic.) The files show up there.
