If you go to https://forums.developer.nvidia.com/t/current-graphics-driver-releases/28500 , you'll see that there are multiple different drivers for different generation cards. I'm guessing that the different Gxx designation on driver packages refers to different driver generations.
The GTX16xx card will use the same drivers as my GTX1080Ti (being of the same generation, so the G06 drivers will be fine. I always install mine from the Nvidia installer (currently running 545.29.06) because I've never been able to actually get anything other than a black screen using the distro packages, but that's some oddity with my system because it seems to work for (almost) everyone else.
Stick with the distro packages if they work for you (but if you do decide to switch to the manual installer, make sure you have dkms installed and working to manage automatic driver rebuilds with kernel updates).

Rodney.
