There won't be any logs, because the Plasma you're running is built in release mode, which disables debug output. If there were any, they would be in
~/.xsession-errors.


The workaround is to go to kde-look.org (click the '?' next to the Source: label for a shortcut there), download the themes you like manually from the Plasma Themes section, then untar them in ~/.kde4/share/apps/desktoptheme.
