Hi all Xorg and HAL experts,
after a monthly "zypper dup" my synaptics touchpad is no longer working. My kernel is now 2.6.31-12-0-2. . The touchpad is still reported in cat /proc/bus/input/devices as I: Bus=0011 Vendor=0002 Product=0007 Version=a5b1 N: Name="SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad" P: Phys=isa0060/serio4/input0 S: Sysfs=/devices/platform/i8042/serio4/input/input1 U: Uniq= H: Handlers=mouse0 event1
but it gets not listed with "xinput -list" and Xorg.0.log does no longer show any attempts to load the synaptics module.
I suppose the kernel module synaptics_i2c should be loaded but it is not. Just modprobing it loads the driver but does not help.
GSynaptics wants met to set SHMConfig option to xorg.conf, but I think that should not be necessary.
Any suggestions? Thanks and regards Stefan
Stefan, First, are you using gnome? If so there was a patch issued not too long ago to fix the synaptics touchpad. If you are using gnome, you can check that you are dealing with the bug by checking to see if the 'scrolling' behavior still works ( moving up and down on the right-edge of the touchpad to scroll a window). The patch has been out for several weeks, so suse should have caught it and incorporated it by now... but, you never know... -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.
