Hello, I sometime wonder if I'm the only one running inn on openSUSE (13.1, today), because when I search for help with google, I find my own threads :-( by the way on opensuse list: http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse/2012-03/msg00817.html and on forum: http://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/477703-inn-curious-misbehavior/pag... today I try again to install inn on an openSUSE 13.1 server. Simply copying the old files didn't do anything good. This server is only for own mailing list gateway, no feed, so probably no archive necessary (lists are archived by mailman). What I did: * install inn with yast * open 119 tcp/udp in the firewall * change ownership of /etc/news from root:root to news:news, else I coudn't edit the config files as news * add name and domain in inn.conf * add auth "remote" { hosts: "*" default: "<remote>" } access "remote" { users: "<remote>" newsgroups: "*" access: RP } at the end of readers.conf at this moment, inn seems to start properly: s-r:/etc # systemctl start inn.service s-r:/etc # systemctl status inn.service inn.service - LSB: Inter Net News Server (INN) Loaded: loaded (/etc/init.d/inn) Active: active (exited) since mer. 2014-04-30 16:40:44 CEST; 5s ago Process: 1208 ExecStop=/etc/init.d/inn stop (code=exited, status=0/SUCCESS) Process: 3586 ExecStart=/etc/init.d/inn start (code=exited, status=0/SUCCESS) avril 30 16:40:44 s-r systemd[1]: Starting LSB: Inter Net News Server (INN)... avril 30 16:40:44 s-r su[3596]: (to root) root on (null) avril 30 16:40:44 s-r su[3596]: pam_unix(su:session): session opened for user news by (uid=0) avril 30 16:40:44 s-r systemd[1]: Started LSB: Inter Net News Server (INN). but I can't connect to the server with thunderbird, I can't connect with "telnet localhost 119" from the server itself, and news@s-r:~> /usr/lib/news/bin/ctlinnd mode ctlinnd: no innd.pid file; did server die? ctlinnd: cannot send "mode" command (sendto failure): No such file or directory this time s-r:/etc # ls /var/run/news/ innwatch.status so now /var/run/news exists, but no inn.pid file is there any hint? thanks jdd -- http://www.dodin.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
