Thanks! Gertjan Lettink a.k.a. Knurpht, installing sof-firmware did the trick, although it didn't go completely smoothly. After installing sof-firmware I tried to start the sound system using YaST2. That crashed my system, locking it up and forcing a hard reboot. But after reboot all seems to be working now and my laptop is happily playing some enjoyable tunes at the moment!
