Assuming you're using KDE:
Two things are available to help you realize this kind of organization:
1) You can move individual windows or all of a given application's windows to a different desktop either via the window's menu (right-click the window titlebar) or via a taskbar icon.
Does this work in KDE4?.
I don't know. I haven't yet performed an openSUSE 11.0 installation.
It took me forever just to find the pager and how to set up multiple desktops in the dumbed down KDE4.
Originally, I was eager to try KDE 4, assuming it was everything KDE3 was and more, but after all the Sturm und Drang here a while back, I think I'll just stick with the devil I know for the time being. Actually, I love KDE, and while I'm surely not the most sophisticated user, I do exploit several of its fancier features. In particular, the window tuning is something I use extensively and (without meaning to imply it's not possible in KDE 4 since as I said, I don't know), I am simply and completely unwilling to give up this capability. As rule, I'm just very, very picky about how my computer interface behaves, and I tend to exploit just about any affordance it gives me to customize, control and tweak its appearance and behavior. Thus, I'm naturally loathe to go backward in this regard.
