<AW> As technology is very dynamic, moving to 12.2 will the best solution & less headache. But again, I have no enough time to do it by now.
<AW> Felix, in my opinion SATA port 0 (1st port) that assumed as ICH controller. And I am sure 11.2 also support non-ICH controller. I just proposed to use SATA card (perhaps non-Intel) and disable the onboard SATA controller although it just waste money.
<AW> But I really curios why H61 unsupported and H77 (newer & better performance) supported by 11.2.

If it is important to you to run 11.2 on your H61, and the only problem is getting installed via DVD, then you can use options to install that do not involve DVD, instead of using an add-in SATA card. Many of add-in cards only support booting from HD and not OM devices like DVD reader. Maybe your H61 can boot 11.2 CD made from netboot .iso file instead of DVD, or from 11.2 LiveCD? http://ftp5.gwdg.de/pub/opensuse/discontinued/distribution/11.2/iso/ PXE boot is one option others use that I have not tried. My favorite method to install whether HD is empty or not, is to first partition via live media, then mkfs an EXT2 /boot partition, and install only Grub and the linux kernel and initrd from the installation media. I then boot using the new Grub to load the installation linux kernel and initrd and install via HTTP (which can be done from ftp5.gwdg.de even for 11.2). This same technique can be used to install from the .iso of 11.2 instead of HTTP by putting the .iso on a previously formatted data (non-/, non-/home) partition. I rarely install any Linux distro directly from DVD media boot. Another option would be to remove the HD from the H61 system and put in a different Intel system that has 11.2 DVD support, install there, then move the HD back to the H61 system. Did you check to make sure lack of DVD support with H61 is not an incompatible BIOS setting? Maybe a cmdline option to offset a quirk would enable the DVD to be used, or maybe failsafe boot mode? Are you sure the DVD reader in the H61 system is not faulty? Will it boot 12.2 DVD or Knoppix DVD or CD. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive."
