I'd be interested in exactly what that line of argument was? A quick peek at Amazon shows that 16gig 2.0 USB thumb drives can be bought for around US$35 in Lots of 10. Twice that if you want USB 3.0. For someone doing a dog-and-pony show, buying in lots of 100 units, the price sinks toward 3 bucks apiece.
