One transmitter site is located on Mount Soledad 22-miles north of us,
a second is on Otay Mountain, about 11-miles NE of us. The problem
is we're in a bit of a valley. The neighborhood was originally built with
40-foot TV masts on each house, then in the mid 1980's the area was
wired for CATV. The antennas then started to disappear. Ours actually
fell over of it's own accord around 1989. So going back to OTA would
require a significant mast on our roof. Also, note that many of those
listed stations are located in Tijuana and are only Spanish speaking.
Just have the community put a digital transmitter in the centre of
the valley. 20 channels at least.
Easier said than done. Leasing tower space, obtaining
right-of-entry,
FCC licensing and permits, etc. Studies would have to be done to
identify interference problems, jurisdictional overlaps, threats to
endangered species, effects on carbon footprints, and such. It
would
be a nightmare.
You might recall that a couple of months ago I was looking into
Internet
access via microwave link? The company came out and determined
that we were dark for their service. There's a good antenna farm
not
too far away and the guy said they've tried to install their
repeater
there, but they just couldn't get things lined up. Remember, this
is
California, the home of Big Government and the Regulation State.
