May or may not be available / practical to you but: I
have one old
machine still with a floppy and had that spin-up issue. The machine is
an old HP and there is an option in the BIOS to 'hide (device) from
OS'. The floppy was one of those 'device' options. 'Hiding' the
floppy
from the OS solved the problem. Of course, if I need the floppy I need
to reboot and re-enable in the BIOS but that is not a frequent problem,
to say the least.
