Thanks. I'll have to look into it. Does this also get the mail from the user to dovecot? That's what I'm stuck on right now.
I think your problem is one of some parts are talking mbox and others are talking maildir.
---- If you noticed, I'm only using mbox... If you somehow tried to cast your Inbox as a maildir format, I can't see how that would work with most Local delivery agents. Would it try to create a maildir in /var/spool/<user>/{m1,m2,m3}.
Go back and read what James said he's using: # 2.1.17: /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf # OS: Linux 3.11.10-21-desktop x86_64 openSUSE 13.1 (x86_64) mail_privileged_group = mail managesieve_notify_capability = mailto managesieve_sieve_capability = fileinto reject envelope encoded-character vacation subaddress comparator-i;ascii-numeric relational regex imap4flags copy include variables body enotify environment mailbox date ihave namespace inbox { hidden = no inbox = yes list = yes location = maildir:~/Mail/INBOX:LAYOUT=f ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX That's in Message-ID: <53F2AB1B.8090905@rogers.com> Date: Mon, 18 Aug 2014 21:40:43 -0400 Now I have the same, and I also have, as I've previously posted here, my promail set up so that it default delivers to MAILDIR=/$HOME/Mail/ DEFAULT="$MAILDIR/INBOX/" As per the docco, the trailing "/" means that procmail delivers to a maildir. So, to answer another question, linking /var/spool/mail/%u doesn't work. I've also mentioned that I have IMAP and ARCHIVE namespaces which are definitions for trees of mbox files. I used to have a spool namespace but found that I could tweak the alias settings in Postfix so that it didn't get used. Once you understand them the namespaces are easy and convenient. The problem is that the documentation is misleading.
