But those are three quite arbitrary strings and need not be in any way related. One is a name, anther is a label and the third is an address.

The point is that you are SUPPOSED to set the location _inside_ the namespace definition.
But the dovecot people don't. They configure it here: /etc/dovecot/conf.d/10-mail.conf, outside of any namespace. They say: # Location for users' mailboxes. The default is empty, which means that Dovecot ... # If you need to set multiple mailbox locations or want to change default # namespace settings, you can do it by defining namespace sections. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E.
