You are not going to end up with GIMP from the graphics repository unless you go fishing for it.
!FALSE! I'm using the graphics repository because I want the latest version of Darktable, which I've mentioned here a number of times and discussed with other photographically-inclined subscribers to this list. it install from there without problems. I never went fishing for gimp. Gimp is not my first choice as a photo editor, it is the third arrow in my photo-editing quiver after Darktable and RawThreapee and neck-and-neck with (yes it is slow but its written in Java) Lightzone. I don't naturally think in 'layers'. I grew up with a real - physical, chemical, blacked out - darkroom, using exposure, filters dodging and masking and more the way Darktable works. But Gimp is there. I think you are being ridiculous about 'expert' and 'devel' when the people who want this stuff want it for making use of the application.
