There is not exist a file named /var/log/messages (Like Slackware linux I used.) Of course it doesn't. openSUSE uses systemd, meaning that there is no syslog by default.
Actually, that was by choice because someone decided there was no need for a syslog daemon.
Wasn't that a side effect of someone deciding the default would be for SDto log as little as possible, and what it does log, it was to keep in transient storage so the log would be cleared each boot? Wait till a forensic FBI person asks SuSE for the log on a SD system, and SuSE explaining that they needed to specify the period they wanted to keep, in advance, but otherwise handing over logs would be a violation of apple's, er, suse's privacy policy...? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
