Nonetheless, I think all users of SuSE Linux / openSUSE most certainly have benefitted from Novell's purchase of SuSE.
Especially GNOME users ;)
The funny thing is that I've never expected I'm gonna switch from Fedora to SUSE, but that have just happened with 10.3 (and I was a long time Red Hat / Fedora user). Novell SUSE team did a great job with 10.3. Speaking about subpixel hinting which is the topic, on other popular distros looks like crap even if a user recompiles freetype2 package with support for subpixel hinting. However, I'm expecting to see more switchers to openSUSE in the near future.
I am starting to do the rebuild of the rpm. However, I can't seem to find the exact version of the installed version in source format (freetype2-2.3.5-18). I would imagine the smartest thing is to use the suse source rpm to make the change. No? In which case, the exact same version is probably the way to go. I looked on the suse repos and found similar (earlier/later) versions. Isn't there a place with the source for what is on the GM DVD? (I used to know my way around the SUSE download site.
