Did you follow the instructions as says Dan Bernstein in his site http://cr.yp.to/daemontools.html exactly?
Daemontools, from 0.7x version (I can't recall what) installs in a very different way as Life with qmail.
If you do this way, daemontools will run as due. But, one thing you must remember is to run it:

once you have installed exactly (in /service and /command) try:

supervise /var/qmail

And daemontools will run now.
