Hello Dick,
I don't mean to be confrontational, but SuSE really has nothing to do with
the ability or inability of the kernel you downloaded and built to compile
the kernel modules you downloaded and built. SuSE has no control over the
releases on ftp.kernel.org. If you choose to update the kernel yourself,
then you have to realize that you may encounter some difficulty in doing
so.
In my conf.modules, I have things set up like so:
alias parport_lowlevel parport_pc
options parport_pc io=3D0x378 irq=3Dnone,none
This might be a good place to start.
Additionally, if you want your system to work properly with a current 2.2
kernel, you should start with the set of update RPMs on ftp.suse.com under
/pub/SuSE-Linux/suse_update/SuSE-6.0/kernel.
Read the README.eng and go from there.
Best of luck,
-josh
