What details do I need to know to be able to mount the Suse boot disk? I
tried minix and ext2 as the filesystems, but it cannot mount it. I want to
experiment with replacing the kernel with a custom one...don't ask why!
Again, I mean the install disk that comes with it, not the one you create
with yast.

You must have made a mistake somewhere, because the boot disk
is supposed to be minix.
The rescue disk is a compressed image and cannot be mounted
except as a loop device.
This is all in the manual, under creating boot disk, and
rescue system.
The command to mount the boot disk should be, as root:
mount -t minix /dev/fd0 /mnt
