Most of the people I have spoken with at Netscape tech support use Linux. I have also learned that the folks at Godard Spaceflight like Linux. Today I was driving to work and saw a Linux bumper sticker. (Are you listening S.u.S.E) I am curious to know how many people use Linux. Does anybody have statistics on this? How fast is it growing? On a related note, I have found that products like the Netscape Communicator are not fully functional on Linux. For example, I was using Netscape on windows NT and found a neat page that had really cool mouseover Java Script. This does not seem to work with my Linux version of Netscape. If any one else wants to see what I am talking about, try: http://www.nokia.com/6100launch= /feat_ir.html>. under NT when I mouse over the parts of the phone the different text sections pop up immediately. In Linux I need to click on the parts of the phone. I find there are other features that don't exist under the Linux version of Netscape. It may be that these features don't exist on any Unix versions. It seems to me that if there is a growing Linux user community it would be wise of companies such as Netscape to provide better functionality than they do. Any thoughts? It was very slow however, Netscape is always slow it seems. I had troubles loading Netscape off the CD (I was a beginner then) so I went and got Netscape from their Home Page and used their instuctions and everything worked fine, altho' it took me a week to get my mail from my ISP because I didn't have everything just right. Couldn't get suseppp to work, so I finally forced myself into giving up and just manually doing ppp with SuSE's little add-on dialog-box thing (via YaST). The real problem I've been having though, is that even if I use the exact same version and configuration for LILO as I did to do LILO under Slackware, it works under Slackware and not SuSE. Odd, considering, the exact same file lilo.conf just copied over. If I use linear (under SuSE) it just gives me an L on boot, if not, LI. I have read through LILO documentation, know what these messages mean, and am still confounded because I just can't get it working! -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo(a)suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e --===============4222786008865782319==-- From roberto@cbvcp.com Fri Jun 19 18:04:05 1998 From: roberto@cbvcp.com To: users@lists.opensuse.org Subject: Re: [S.u.S.E. I had rh 4.2 installed on my machine before suse, and it caused these sort ofproblems until i was tired of it and formatted the partition, and reinstalled suse. > Odd, considering, the > exact same file lilo.conf just copied over. If I use linear (under SuSE) > it just gives me an L on boot, if not, LI.=20 Do you need to use linear? I just looked at the yast help, and it said that it's faster (which i have found to usually be better) to not use the linear option. --=20 Aaron Seelye
