Your remedy, run "runx" instead of "startx" rectifies the trashed fonts and for this, I am great- ful and thank you. I'm sure that you are waiting for the other shoe to drop, or a "but" and here it is: What I would really like to have is a solution to the problem rather than a "Band Aid" repair, or at least a better understanding of how the trashed font problem comes about. Again I am greatful for the advice, just trying to understand the dynamics (ie mechanism).
