When I try and start a KPPP session in KDE the modem dials and negotiates a
connection. I can see in the log window where the proper login sequence is s=
ent
but before a ppp connection is established I get an error saying that "The pp=
pd
daemon died unexpectedly!". If I use ppp-up from a terminal window a ppp
connection is established.. It seems like I saw a reference to this problem
before and someone said to delete a lock file or something.
Thanks,
Tom

kppp will not function if there are any options set in /etc/ppp/options
That may be why comand-line ppp works but kppp doesn't. If you move
your ppp options to your ppp-up script rather than the options file you
should be able to use command-line as well as kppp. Do not delete the options
file, just remove all the text from it and add those options to your ppp-up
script. Good luck.

I believe you make sure the /etc/ppp/options file is blank.

I have met the same problem when I tried kppp, I used a 486 with 8MB RAM,
it runs not so fast under X window. But I have found a way to this problem:
pls give the pppd more time in the timeout setting line, I set it at 300 seco=
nd,
and succeeded. Perhaps someone can have better solutions?
Best,
Frederic
