Hello all,
I got X working in the 800x600 resolution
As a long time user of Linux, I am still amazed at its power. This
poor thinkpad was destined for the junk heap at work. Windows 98
wouldn't recognize the backback cdrom. win 95 had to be loaded with
floppies. neither os even detected the pc card stuff the first time,
the network card needed separate drivers. I support the unix machines
at work and while other support people at my work used work laptops, I
have never bothered to ask for one. I didn't want to have to have win
anything on a laptop. well the pc guy at my work was so fed up with
this laptop that he was close to pitching it. I stepped in and
rescued it. I did a nfs install of suse 5.3 that went perfectly. I
had the minor trouble remembering how to setup ftpd because once I get
ssh on it I disable ftpd. The biggest problem I had was getting
800x600 to work in X. and that turned out to be getting the mode
lines correct. this labtop is quick and light and all together
usefull. now I can watch tv and work. Linux and SuSE rules!!
Thanks to those who helped.
