It still sounds like the Domain Name Lookup is failing..... Wait...
I had a case, when setting up my linux box... If the person logged into the
Windows (mine was NT) network used a different user name... or didn't have a
user name.. or the passwords didn't match... that person couldn't even net
view my linux box.
