This can get a silly as an o/s flame war. However, I think in some ways this =
topic
is not discussed enough. I think that if you are going to have this discussio=
n on
the list servs of various Linux distributors, at their expense, I would think=
that
you would all keep your comments positive and avoid discussions about who has=
the
best package management system or who has the best installer.
Package management, installation routines and update facilities are great, bu=
t I
haven't seen a distribution yet that excells at all of it. On a positive note=
, each
distribution is getting better, quality is up, user satisfaction is up overal=
l and
we can reap the fruits of some quality Linux development going on globally.
I have found that each distribution seems to excell on a couple of major poin=
ts -
and where it excells provides the user with a role that particular distributi=
on can
provide. I have found a great use for every distribution I have encountered a=
nd
they're all good. ANY of the Linux distributions makes an excellent choice. (=
see

ww.linux.org> check the distributions page)
It's not a spoon fed world like Microsloth, and a good Unix/Linux user will m=
ake
the best effort to wean themselves from that kind of thinking. Get past the
learning curve, get over it and support your distributor by becoming a subscr=
iber.
Keep these people in business. Linux is an emerging market and we need to sup=
port
all of the distributors as best we can. Stay with a distributor who is provi=
ding
the kind of support that works for you.
The last thing we need in the Linux community is a big pissing contest about
distributions. At current prices, you can afford to try ALL of them and still=
beat
Microsloth!
