Can anyone explain me how SuSE 5.2 handles shared libraries??? It
seems it uses ld.so.conf as a main conf file and ls.so.conf.in as a local
conf file. I have installed lesstif and as ld.so.conf directs users to use
ld.so.conf.in I placed the new entry there...It didnt work....If I place it
directly in ld.so.conf it works but whenever SuSEConfig runs it deletes
the new entry making me edit it again. Can anyone give me an hint???
Thanks...

You need to edit ld.so.conf.in, THEN run SuSEconfig. Once you've edited
ld.so.conf, SuSEconfig won't touch it, it's up to you after that. Use
ld.so.conf.in, that is the correct way to make library additions.
