I've been running kdm so it starts at bootup. Anyway, I have=20 somehow managed to bugger it up. I must have fiddled with something and=20 now kdm doesn't work. It goes through all the boot-up stuff and then to=20 the ascii login prompt where it tries to go into kdm. However the screen=20 keeps flashing between blank and the login prompt really quickly (ie=20 long blank, quick login prompt flash). I gather I've buggered it up and=20 it repeatedly tries and fails to run kdm. I had to use my boot disk to=20 run yast to go back to the ascii login and then rebooted. So now I can=20 at least use linux without the graphical login. x-windows works fine=20 using startx but I would like to get kdm running again. I tried it once=20 again but it was still buggered. Does anyone know what I have done to bugger things up and how I might= =20 be able to fix it. I would like to avoid a re-install if possible. (I=20 think a newbie's attitude is often if anything goes wrong then=20 re-install. I am trying hard to get out of the Microshaft way of=20 thinking so I want to avoid a reinstall). On another note, I want to thank all of the people that have helped m= e=20 over the last few weeks. you have all been terrific. I am just curious=20 as to the ettiquette of this mailing group with regards to thanking=20 people. Should I post a thank-you note once I have got a problem fixed=20 (what should I title it?). I have probably been a bit rude before not=20 posting a thank-you but I thought it might be more kind to people not to=20 waste the bandwidth. Any thoughts on this?=20 Cheers, Brad. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com> - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e --===============3846782630357401573==--
