i'm trying to run x on my 300 mhz gateway g-6
it has a nvidia 4meg video card installed in an AGP slot(at least i assume
it's agp...it's not a pci, and not the big isa's....) i've managed to get x
running...sort of. it only runs in 320x200, virtual 320x204. the problem
seems to be that a pci scan doesn't pick up my video card...which doesn't
surprise me, but how can i get this to work?
i've got an older Rage II +DVD card, which i experimented with this
afternoon. i can get x running well under it, but i don't have the drivers
to run it under win95...if all else fails, i'll dig them up somewhere.
anyway, while i was experimenting, i used sax to setup x for use with the
nvidia card, but once i pulled the rage card, and tried to go back to using
the nvidia card, x still won't run right. i tinkered with the XF86Config
file, setting the default color depth and such, but to no avail. under 16,
24, and 32, it won't run at all, but using 8 it goes back to running in the
320x200 mode i mentioned earlier.
does anyone know if AGP cards will run x? has anyone had any luck running x
on a gateway with the included video card? perhaps i've missed a howto on
agp cards, or something....
thanks,
-derek

I have an AGP STB Velocity 128/4mb on a Dell and when I installed 5.3 I
used SAX. The board was found and I configured to 1024x768x16bit and
everything went just fine.
