I followed the steps in the Hard Drive Upgrade HOWTO. I also recompiled the kernel for SCSI support. Everything seems to be working except for Yast. When I start it I get the opening screen and then it freezes. None of the usual commands work for stopping the job or rebooting. I have to turn off power and reboot.=20 Here are the steps I have taken so far to resolve the problem: 1. checked permissions of a number of directories and all of the Yast files I could find. Everything looks OK. (I still have the first HD in place so I can compare) 2. deleted the Yast package, then reinstalled it, still have the problem. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks. I had a similar problem to this when I temporarily installed a CD-burner for a couple of months. After it was installed, YaST crashed everytime I started it, so I just ended up not using it. After taking the drive out again, it all started working fine. In my opinion, YaST is storing the location of the CD/hard drives somewhere, but I don't know where. I don't think you would have had this problem if you were upgrading to an IDE drive, but the device name change from /dev/sdx from /dev/hdx may have caused problems. I would look for a file that YaST has created storing comfiguration information and try renaming it temporarily unt= il you find your problem. > Here are the steps I have taken so far to resolve the problem: >=20 > 1. checked permissions of a number of directories and all of the Yast > files I could find.
