You also need to edit a suse file in etc, I think it was rc.config and set a variable DISPLAYMANAGER=3Dkde there. If your KDE works (i.e. it comes up correctly when you type "startx"), you can start it via XDM or KDM. You just need to set the default runlevel to 3 for a SuSE box. The line from my /etc/inittab looks like this : # default runlevel id:3:initdefault: =20 You can use YAST or edit rc.config to choose between XDM or KDM. The keyword = is WINDOWMANAGER. One hint : if you experience problems with KDM (KDM comes up allright, but wh= en you try to log on the screen goes blank for a couple of secs and then you=C5= =BDre back in KDM), your version of KDM is not configured to use the shadow password sys= tem that SuSE uses by default. Then you can try to build from the sources and use ./configure --with-shadow for the packet KDEBASE. hope this helps cheerio Jerry --=20 shit - what - rollers - no - yes - shit - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e --===============2457942830385253592==-- From karcher@idworld.net Sat Aug 15 03:17:49 1998 From: karcher@idworld.net To: users@lists.opensuse.org Subject: Re: [SuSE Linux] Running kdm with SuSE Date: Fri, 14 Aug 1998 22:17:49 -0500 Message-ID: <98081422231300.00214@angus> In-Reply-To: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/mixed; boundary="===============7524183770465900638==" --===============7524183770465900638== Content-Type: text/plain; charset="utf-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable It helped a lot, Jerry. And thanks also to punt for the quick answers from both of you. It was easy to configure in rc.config and kdmrc once I knew whe= re to look. Now I am trying to figure out how to cut down the number of users in the login screen to just "root" and "karcher".
