I've been listening to this group about 2 weeks now.=20
A few rookies ( I hate that newbies word) such as myself have asked the usual
questions and had great responses. I've watched higher level interchanges
between some obviously very experienced folk.=20
Something is missing.
This is a new release, this 5.3. There seem to be no major problems with it. =

I right? Other than something about sound and a syntax error, I haven't heard
of a really difficult problem. We can even talk tomatoes, there's so much roo=

My hat is off to the SuSE development team. Even THIS Windows pup can install
5.3. The Linux community needs to see what a really great distribution looks
like. I can hardly wait to see what happens next.

Well, there IS one major bug: When doing an installation in English
language, YaST will crash on certain partition layouts. But this bug has
been fixed and replacement CD-ROMs will leave the factory on monday.=20
Besides of that we just have the "usual" problems that will always exist
(I'm still investigating the PCMCIA problems with some hardware). Judging
from the support here in Germany, there really doesn't seem to exist some
killer bug.
I think the only way to assure quality is automation of the production
process. We have invested very much time on our autobuild system that is
capable of creating the whole distribution with (almost) one single
command. This way we can avoid most of the human factor that is
responsible for many errors like typos and so on.=20

I agree, it has been quiet. I am a Suse newbie
although I've been using linux for a while (redhat, slackware)
and, to be honest, when I first installed Suse (5.3). I really
did not like it; it was different from the distro's I know.
After having gotten Informix SE/ESQLC working (the reason I
chose Suse) and DBD::Informix. I must say I am starting to
really warm to it. It is a very good distribution, and I can't
tell you how good it is to see quick responses from the Suse
development team on this mailing list.
Mind you, I still have some issues that drive me crazy; I still can't
build WindowMaker (even after a reinstall and checking the wraster.h
situation) or BitchX (missing libnsl) but, overall, I think I'll
stay with this distribution and recommend it to others.=20
Keep up the good work.

I have meant to ask, does this replacement disk also go to those who
ordered early, such as myself? I did experience this problem and worked
my way around it.

I just installed WindowMaker 0.19.2 using the binary provided by Michael
Lankton, and it installed perfectly. Yes, I also went thru the runaround
with wraster.h and /wrlib.
Sorry, can't find the e-mail with the link to the site.
Best of luck. Believe me -- the current release of WM is _well worth
checking out_. It's fabulous.

Not a problem, just a question.
To all zshell-philes:
What would you consider to be the best selling points of using the
zshell as a login shell?
What about the zshell appeals to you, in terms of command-line functions
and the like?
What ways have you found to configure the zshell to your liking?
Just curious. I've been using bash for awhile, and wonder if I should
make the switch.

Strange. I compile BitchX with no probs. I looked at the stuff for BX..
blaze# ldd /usr/local/bin/BitchX
libncurses.so.3.0 => /lib/libncurses.so.3.0
libdl.so.1 => /lib/libdl.so.1
libc.so.5 => /lib/libc.so.5
It doesn't even mention libnsl as a linking library as you see...
As far as WM goes, I've seen 3 posts re compiling on S.u.S.E. 5.3 or more
saying they can't build it. The two responses:
Dan: get rid of old wraster.h
Alfredo: delete any libwraster.a files on your system. Did you try both of
these? both in prob in /usr/local/include and /usr/local/library
respectively.

Good Luck & nice website.
