At this point I have no sound card(the Acer s20 I have has never functioned under even my OS/2) so I'd like to buy a card more current.=20 The AWE64 is supported, but when I almost purchased a non-retail one in ISA last week one of the guys I spoke to suggested the Monster M80(PCI) as being the choice for sound output and that was confirmed buy a gamer I spoke to later. I have been unable to find anything on this card, that is will it work under linux, even if at reduced capability(the card difference between the one I was going to buy and it was about $25(US) so I thought it a good choice but I do want something for a 100 bucks) Also, as I recently bought a used Wincast/TV-dbx I might actually have a TV for the first time in a while! An idiot box to go along with my Linux box :-) Creative now has a PCI card, but I'd like to get the most for the money; does anyone have any experience with the Diamond? Well to use the AWE64 is going to be a slight problem, first you will need to upgrade the module with a patch to do soundfont tech. You can find a mini-HOWTO at=20 http://= sunsite.unc.edu/mdw/HOWTO/mini/Soundblaster-AWE.html> Follow this and you will find the link to get the patch. I know a number of people who still haven't got it to work unless they use the OSS/LINUX ($20US) program. :( Also of note: Development Kernels have the AWE patch already built in to the kernel to make as a module. (called HACKER's Kernel by SuSE) which are 2.1.XX kernels. A chancey way to go, i wouldn't if I was limited in experance in Linux. I always thought including everything directly into the kernel the best way to have it, but starting with my soundcard I learned this is not so, you will need to load the sound support as a module for one thing.
