imagemagick module not found

Hi, I have a simple script, used uncountable times since years, and now it doesn't work anymore, because a module isn't found. The command executed is: magick "image.JPG" -quality 50 -verbose "image.png" The answer is: magick: unable to load module '/usr/lib64/ImageMagick-7.1.1/modules-7_Q16HDRI10/coders/jpeg.la': file not found @ error/module.c/OpenModule/1293. magick: no decode delegate for this image format `JPEG' @ error/constitute.c/ReadImage/746. I just checked: the not found jpeg.la is where it should be, the rights are set correct. Any hints what could be the reason and how I could correct it? Thanks for your help. Hello:This occurs in openSUSE 15.5. I installed firefox 128.0esr. -------The mouse pointer doesn't change to a hand on hovering links in firefox 128 esr.-------I use the default X windows mouse theme (by setting no theme in KDE control center).-------I use KDE3 desktop.-------The mouse works normally with previous firefox 115 esr.-------What is the cause, and how could I fix?-------Thanks,-------Istvan-------ps: The -------s are for separating lines.

Unable to install multimedia codec files on OpenSuSE 15.5

Hmm, When I tried to install the onc-click installation files, .ymp, for Multimedia Codecs like MP3, DVD, DivX, MP4 from https://www.opensuse-community.org/ for either KDE or GNOME I get the following error message - The install link or file you opened does not contain instructions for openSUSE Leap 15.5. from the YasT 1-Click installer. I am running OpenSuSE 15.5 x64 OS. What am I doing wrong? No Login, no Graphics after update to Tumbleweed 20230211-0

Hello, after the update the screen only shows a '-'. All the usual other tty screens that you get with e.g. STRG-ALT-F1 are also gone. I can connect to the PC via ssh from my Ubuntu Laptop and check what is going on. I am using an old GTX 570 on that PC. Previously when the G06 stuff was installed instead of updating the needed G04 stuff, I was able to install NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-390.157.run manually and the login and XFCE worked. But now even that fails. :-( Any pointers? Is that the beginning of the things that are named in Subject "Nvidia 390x driver users - glibc 2.37 will bring bad news" ? nvidia g05 or nouveau in TW Live/Install?

My nvidia gt640 video card is temporarily re-installed after the AMD card went kaput. The TW install and Live DVD's both boot but end up with a black screen after the last HDMI symbol appears. The DVD continues reading but the prog is unaware that I can't see anything. I thought that the installers and Live media could work with any card. What are my options to recover the installation and use it with this card UFN?

Why doesn't TW configure resume from swap by default?

Devs, I put my computer to sleep yesterday only to find it would not wake from sleep forcing a hard reset. Checking the config, there was no resume=/dev/by/uuid/..... configured. Leap 15.4 configured this automatically. Is there a reason why TW doesn't configure resume? It was quite a shock to have this laptop, that has always woken from sleep without issue suddenly die trying to wake. Where/how did resume not get set? -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.

Same as always, including the last ten or so that didn't work - Download from suse using gftp - Burn image to DVD+R with k3b - this last one was: openSUSE-Tumbleweed-DVD-x86_64-Snapshot20240827-Media.iso I always use 'verify data' but this time verification did dot take place; it didn't fail, just never happened. Not a factor since this has been going on for months and all the previopus DVD writes verified OK. Your earlier suggestion to append 3 and/or nomodeset to the linux line in the grub stanza DID improve things a bit. I got a localhost login so I logged in as root and called sddm. Then I logged in as my standard dummy user "u0" and got plasma up and running with no issues. But for UserMe I first verified that the data partition where that home is stored on a 4tb ssd and linked to from /home/UserMe was in fact mounted: it was. Then I tried to log in as UserMe and got the same result as when I did a chroot: no login and returned to sddm. I call xeyes in .profile I think and xeyes flashes momentarily as well as some color bars like a comb but no plasma. I cannot launch Artix either, TW and Artix are my only two installs using plasma. TW is my only install with systemd, probably unrelated but TW has often been problematic with my nvidia card, not suse if Artix is/was using nouveau. Slakware, Devuan are using XFCE, VoidLinux isn't GUI yet, these three definitely do not and never have used nvidia drivers but all worked and still do except Artix. I haven't tried the nomodeset bit with Artix yet. But there is a difference when I chroot into Artix: after first logging in as dummy user u0 I see the data partition mounted because it was mounted in Slackware from where I chrooted. KDF shows it containing nothing. I mount it again and thereupon KDF shows it xy% full. I log out and try my UserMe login and this is where Artix differs from TW: I do get plasma up. > > What exactly happens when you try to boot your "install DVD"? Leap 15.6 and amdgpu-pro ???

Hi, Presently I use amdgpu-pro-23.40.2_SLES_15_sp_5 in Leap 15.5. I would like to upgrade from Leap 15.5 to Leap 15.6, but I wonder whether the current amdgpu-pro driver 24.10.3 for SLED/SLES 15 SP 5, release date 6/19/2024 works in Leap 15.6. Any information on that? cu Peter

Devs, Not sure if packman is just out of bandwidth or what the issue is, but TW updates take forever, e.g. Retrieving: librist4-0.2.7-1699.1.pm.25.x86_64.rpm ....................................<86%>=======[| (16.0 KiB/s)] That is 1/2 of what a 33.6 dial-up modem will do over an old land-line. (it used to take Friday - Sunday to download SUSE over a modem - and pray a disconnect didn't occur :) Are there any additional resources that may help this situation? I think it is pulling from gwdg.de, but even then the pipe should be bigger than 16.0 KiB/s. Ideas? -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.

Tumbleweed - dracut update on dup tonight failed to start WiFi on reboot?

Devs, Just did a zypper dup on Tumbleweed after removing the openSUSE-repo-xxx packages. openSUSE repos have much improved download speed ~1-5MB/s compare to the less than 100KB/s earlier. Packman still crawls at ~100KB/s, but that's just packman in the US. But dracut was updated, and during reboot I noticed a couple new errors splashed to the screen - too quick to read what they were, but when the desktop started -- it was clear, my WiFi connection was dead. Checking 'ip' it was dead. Going into Yast, the configuration was fine and simply clicking "edit" on my wireless connection and "next", "next", "Accept" brought the wireless connection up without problem. What to check to find the earlier errors and determine why, for the first time since Tumbleweed install, wireless failed to start on boot? Seems likely to be related to dracut or one of the libraries that was updated. -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.

I see a message like this in my system journal: Aug 28 08:44:12 acme drkonqi-coredump-launcher[4357]: Authorization required, but no authorization protocol specified It happens quite often (every couple minutes), and when it does, it repeats many many times. It happens when I am not doing anything. So it seems not to be related to my activity. Or at least not directly. I do not know when this started. I just noticed it today because I saw that systemd-journald is taking > 25% CPU time. And rsyslogd is also taking lots of time. That seems wrong. How can I find out what is triggering it? I tried drkonqi-coredump-gui, but it says "No crashes match the search". I don't really need the core dumps. Can this be disabled? I see references (Google) to services with related names (drkonqi-coredump*). But I do not see them on my system. I'm running Leap. It's not the most recent: 20230908. WDE does not work with a Swedish laptop during setup and install. After installing you have to use an english character layout on a swedish character layout. It needs to be fixed. OpenSUSE needs to use the character layout of the keyboard being used for encryption purposes like debian and fedora. Or you need an english laptop.

Devs, Recently there have been posts about removing openSUSE-repos-XXX to improve mirror performance and allow listing additional mirrors in the baseurl= option. What are these packages and why or why not to remove them? Why can't I just add the nvidia repo as a normal repo as we have always done? What is the benefit of these -repo packages? -- David C. Hi, up to date tumbleweed: i have a small opensuse without graphic, logging into tty1 there was a very old tumbleweed (3-4 years old, before updating this machine) behavior changed: when i use heavy load to the processor (here i pbzip2 a whole disk) i got on screen the messages (and similar messages): [1580-1618057] [ C6] perf: interrupt took to long (2503>2500), lowering kernel.perf.event_max_sample_rate to 798000 when i remember correct, the message itself is nothing to care about. BUT why is this message not (only) written inside a log file? why did this interrupt my screen output? is there something i have to configure, or why is this now on screen. on the old system it was not on screen. and i think it should not be there interrupting the output (as example if working with mc everything will be messed up) any hints? or should i open a bug report? simoN -- www.becherer.de

ssh:... Connection refused

Recently, I installed Leap 15.6 on one of my two computers and gave it the name "azure", "az" and the IP address 192.168.2.17. Then, from my other computer, which still carries Leap 15.2, I tried to reach it by the command "ssh az", getting the error message: "ssh: connect to host az port 22: Connection refused" Analogous error messages I get for "ssh azure" and "ssh 192.168.2.17", as to be expected. I have already checked the .ssh root and user directories and /etc/ssh on both of my computers, not finding anything wrong. What else can I do for getting ssh access to my computer "az"? Problem with Chinese opensuse mirrors

Hello In India in a alot of networks alot of chinese domains and ip addresses are blocked for obvious reasons. While this is a minor inconvenience when using zypper or yast ( it does slow down because most of the chinese mirrors are blocked, yet they come up because India is geographically closer to China.) The web is another story. for example if i want to download a package from say libtool from; https://software.opensuse.org/package/libtool this sends me to https://mirrors.tuna.tsinghua.edu.cn/opensuse/tumbleweed/repo/oss/x86_64/li… ALWAYS. which obviously does not open. no other mirror is selected. and i cant download any thing. its as good as dead. any solution to this? this whole geographically close thing does not work. thanks chandan

Bitlocker Surprise!

Hi Folks, One of my users connected a portable disk to his Leap 15.6 system that had an encrypted partition from a Windows Bitlocker pea sea. KDE announced the connection and prompted for the Bitlocker password! It worked! I've used Dislocker in the past, but had no idea it was built into KDE nowadays. I thought I'd mention it here in case others haven't heard about it either. Regards, Lew

Devs, Since I can remember, suse/opensuse has provided the convenience of collecting the bash builtin functions in a separate man page: $ man bashbuiltins On Tumbleweed, that results in: $ man bashbuiltins No manual entry for bashbuiltins Possibly, man page is not installed, try online at: https://manpages.opensuse.org/bashbuiltins It was there up though Leap 15.4. Dear list, Dear Jay, @Jay at first, I would like to congratulate to Jay Michalska as a new Master Leader of openSUSE. @others Secondly, I would like to express my love and gratitude to many people from the openSUSE community I had the honor to meet, I won't list names here, but I am sure many of you know :) . openSUSE was basically part of most of my life and the community and people from it has inspired me in numerous ways in my life, not only career / libre software part of it. But sadly, It seems it has gone to the point, where negatives (that have nothing to do with people mentioned in previous paragraph) are just bigger than the positives. For me, this is the renowned final straw. Questionable problems with Tumbleweed snapshot 20240731 (Mostly-Solved):

Hi, I am running openSUSE Tumbleweed on a machine with Nvidia G05 drivers. Machine was unable to boot to graphical target..... I just learned that Nvidia G05 driver is not supported with the 6.10.2-1 kernel as of yet. So adjusted Grub2, to booting with 6.9.9-1 and do now reach graphical target. A noticeable problem now is *not* having a rollback option available in the boot menu anymore. During the previous 'zypper dup' there was an error with a grub filename of sorts, that was unable to (r, retry) successfully. I aborted, powercycled then ran "zypper dup" again... I powercycled again and then passed 'zypper -vvv dup' with "Nothing to do" reported. When passing '# snapper list' the output shows many snapshots. Can you tell me how to recover the snapshot entry option for boot menu? I have attempted regenerating initrd > 'dracut --regenerate-all --force' *and* update grub > 'grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg' , powercycled and still no rollback option exists any longer. Also have attempted to pass > # zypper in --force grub2 grub2-branding-openSUSE grub2-i386-pc grub2-i386-pc-extras grub2-snapper-plugin grub2-systemd-sleep-plugin ruby3.3-rubygem-cfa_grub2 After powercycle, It appears the machine is now displaying 'boot from read-only snapshot' option again. If I *did not* pass 'zypper se -i grub*' , I would not have seen the possible culprit being package 'grub2-snapper-plugin'. Why did this happen? Those packages are now marked with 'i+', user installed *not* 'i' installer, as shown before. Is this an issue? Now the largest question I am left with about this is. Are there other packages installed on the machine that need to be installed again with force possibly? I recently passed '# zypper install --force sane-airscan' to correct 'airscan-discover' for some reason. I have passed 'zypper ve' > Dependencies of all installed packages are satisfied. Need help with a laptop that will only run Plasma/Wayland

I have an ASUS laptop that normally is running in a remote location. The trouble is, is that it will only start up the Plasma/Wayland desktop and I need it to bring up the Plasma/X11 desktop instead. (I use x11vnc for remote desktop access purposes, and x11vnc won't talk with Wayland AFAIK, and yes I must run both the x11vnc server as well as clients on the laptop) The laptop is running under OpenSuSE 15.5 x64 with the KDE desktop manager. When I try to use the Plasma/X11 desktop, after a reboot I reach the KDE login screen OK. If I choose to log in with the Plasma/X11 desktop, after entering my login name and password, the screen just goes blank for a moment, then cycles back and re-brings up the login/password screen again. Apparently the Plasma/X11 version of the desktop is not accepting my login credentials for some reason. However, if I choose to brings up the Plasma/Wayland desktop, my login credentials work just fine and the desktop comes up OK. I have no idea how to go about debugging and solving this problem, log files seem unhelpful with nothing much amiss, and DuckDuckGo internet searching ain't bringing no joy either. I would rather not apply a single case workaround either, I like to keep all my systems I support, as consistent as possible. Anyone up for helping me to get this beast of a laptop to behave itself. I was reading about proposed changes to RFC 6724 which determines the priority for IP address selection. In the original RFC 6724, IPv4 addresses are given preference to IPv6 Unique Local Addresses (ULA). The proposed changes would reverse that. However, in testing with ping, I see ULA is preferred, except for the computer being used for testing from. That is when a computer is pinging itself. Why the difference? Why is the proposed priority used when pinging a different device, but not the same device? Also, if I use the FQDN, instead of just the host name, then ULA is used. WTF??? I'm using the DNS resolver in pfSense. Long ago (openSUSE 6.3?) when I had only one machine and an analog modem, I set up /etc/hosts to map my IP address; as time went on I added a router, a network printer, an OS-X machine, etc., but my network was small enough that I could manage the devices with /etc/hosts. Currently I have satellite IP routed through a NetGear WiFi router, in which I have assigned the static addresses in my /etc/hosts file, but I want to migrate to the StarLink system that I recently bought. Unfortunately, the StarLink system's built-in router is a Black Box :-( that only supports devices via DHCP. (It is already handling a WiFi laptop and several smart phones; the legacy devices on the NetGear router use an Ethernet network.) My question is, do I just have to use YaST LAN to switch my network setting from Static to DHCP, or are there other changes required? (Both routers use the same 192.168.x.x address range, so it seems to me that just moving the Ethernet cable from one router to the other without assigning a new address ought to work, but there is no way to talk to the StarLink router if there is an address collision with devices it has already assigned.) Correct folder, file placement and Environment Variable for disabling QML cache in Plasma 6?

Hi, Tumbleweed Plasma 6 here. Wondering if you know of the correct location for holding QT Plasma 6 QML Environment Variables? There has been a suggestion of '~/.config/environment.d/envvars.conf`. The directory does not exist by default. '/etc/environment' directory does not exist by default either so this very well could be the case. Suggested to me is "QML_DISABLE_DISK_CACHE=1" though I do not see that on the documentation page. Interested in variable to disable QML disk cache (bottom of page). gdb is horribly chatty and annoying in TW - adding config files helps

[opensuse] boot32.efi for 64 bits processor and Leap

Hello, We see more and more often very small but powerfull computers, atom multicore 64 bits, but with UEFI 32 bits firmware. I have one now ("It Works TW891" paid 129€ - 32Gb ssd + 2Gb ram, runs almost perfectly windows 10 32bits or Debian 64bits). these computers can be installed with 64 bits distros, but they need absolutely a 32 bits loader. Right now I on ly know of the hybrid debian 32/64bits dvd to be able to install. Notice that *only the loader* have to be 32bits, the generic name being boot32.efi copying a generic loader to the Leap EFI folder allows booting, and probably installing (I couldn't make all the tests), but the generic one gives only a grub prompt, not handy. TW dup to local repo packages tried to remove 53 kde3 packages -- what to check?

Devs, All, I created a signed local repo with patched Nvidia packages for the G04 driver. My intent was simply to: # zypper -r mynvidiarepo dup To move all Nvidia packages to the versions in my repo. When I did, zypper proposed updating the 7 driver packages, but then also proposed removing most of the kde3 desktop (53 packages). I'm at a loss to why zypper would propose the removal of unrelated packages when simply trying to update Nvidia drivers. My first thought was there must have been some problem with the .spec and dependencies -- but I can't imaging what that would be. Where would I start to look for why zypper proposed the removal of the kde3 packages on change of versions for the Nvidia drivers? To work around this problem, I simply rsynced the repo to my laptop and then did a: # zypper in *.rpm Which worked fine and didn't suggest uninstalling anything. So what's the difference in dup or in for the package removals? (I would have copied the zypper dup output -- but the dkms driver build scrolled everything out of the xterm buffer :( Thoughts? -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.

Accessing ext4 from Windows

Perhaps a bit off subject. I'm not sure. But I figure there are folk here using ext4 file systems, so... I have a new requirement to be able to read/write ext4 file systems from Windows. It's like this: we have a data collection system that collects data to a mix of ext4 and vfat disks. For whatever reasons. We have usually accessed all of these from a Linux system where file system support is really great. Unfortunately, the powers that be have decided to set up a system that is Windows-only. Sigh. I have tried installing openSUSE Leap 15.6 in WSL 2. It actually works great. My motivation was that I should be able to mount the ext4 partition via wsl, and then access it in Windows. See, for example, https://windowsreport.com/ext4-windows-11/. That is sort of true if by 'access' you mean in Windows Explorer only. That is not a workable solution. I need access in programs and shell scripts. I then tried a product like Linux Reader. It is geared towards file recovery. Why anyone would use a Windows computer to try to recover files on an ext4 system is a real mystery. It also seemed to caution that it really wanted to be a read-only thing. Not a confidence booster. And not what I need. Finally, I tried Paragon Software's ext4 for Windows. It seems to be properly read/write and, generally looks great. But then I see that I cannot access SQLite databases that are on these disks. SQLite (general programs and database browsers) all complain that the database is locked. We had this issue when, from Linux, accessing databases on CIFS mounted drivers. That was sorted by adding nobrl to the CIFS mount command on Linux. It's a known issue. So this method was close, but no cigar. A support question is pending as I cannot think I am the first person who wanted to access an SQLite database this way. So my question here is if anyone has any experience with Windows software that lets one mount ext4 file systems read/write. It has to work from programs and shell scripts, not just in a file system browser GUI. -- Roger Oberholtzer

Admins, The interface at download.opensuse.org is growing on me, but the frustrating part is I have to set the drop-down for number of files to show each time to 100, etc.. Can we add a cookie to save that info. It we are dealing with the additional overhead of the interface -- it may as well work for us. This is a cookie I would actually welcome :) -- David C. Using iptables along with firewalld

I'm running Tumbleweed and using firewalld. If I want to block some incoming IP addresses and I add iptables reject rules will that work to block them? I do a iptables -L and iptables appears to be available. I have my reasons for wanting to use iptables for this blocking.

Styling Qt5 Apps with qt5ct - simple text file edits work fine

All, Dropping a note for anyone who has Qt5 apps running not under Plasma. Take for example keepassxc. The default dark style is fine, but if you install anything that adjusts the Qt5 style, it will revert to white and is quite blinding. One workaround is to install qt5ct (Qt5 Configuration Tool) which does come with a few themes. Only problem, the darker theme has hideous alternating row colors in keepassxc. (configured with darker colors and fusion qss) Thankfully the colors for everything are in a simple text file that you can change to suit your needs. The install will put the themes color files in: /usr/share/qt5ct/colors/xxxxxxx.conf (where xxxxxxx is the name for the color theme) You can simply copy a theme to modify from /usr/share/qt5ct/colors to your user config location in: ~/.config/qt5ct/colors/ You can then modify it to your hearts content. Use a color picker like kcolorchooser or the one in qimp or the gtk-color-chooser to find the color you wish to change in a Qt5 app, then just edit your copy of the .conf file (rename it too to some name you want for your theme). Then simply run qt5ct and select the color theme from the drop-down and hit "Apply". For the darker.conf theme hideous alternating row colors, simply change #ff5c5b5a to #ff434343 and things will look at LOT better. Change in all 3 lines (active, disabled, inactive). If you make sure that is the only color in the line (#ff5c5b5a is), you can simple use sed to fix it: sed -i 's/5c5b5a/434343/' ~/.config/qt5ct/colors/yourtheme.conf done. Hopefully this helps someone else faced with unbearable Qt5 color themes when running a Qt5 app not under plasma. -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.

Hi, I have six virtual bridges in xen host machine and following virtual machine configuration file section defining the vifs: vif = [ 'bridge=br10', 'bridge=br20', 'bridge=br30', 'bridge=br40', 'bridge=br50', 'bridge=br60' ] This means that in the guest(openSUSE Leap 42.1) I have six vNICs(eth0 - eth5). Can I be sure that eth0 is always connected to br10, eth1 to br20, etc? Or should I specify a MAC address for each vNIC created like this: vif = [ 'bridge=br10, mac=00:14:5E:11:C6:F1', 'bridge=br20, mac=00:14:5E:11:C6:F2', 'bridge=br30, mac=00:14:5E:11:C6:F3', 'bridge=br40, mac=00:14:5E:11:C6:F4', 'bridge=br50, mac=00:14:5E:11:C6:F5', 'bridge=br60, mac=00:14:5E:11:C6:F6' ] .. and then configure udev rules which make sure that interface associated with MAC 00:14:5E:11:C6:F1 and br10 is always named eth0, interface associated with MAC 00:14:5E:11:C6:F2 and br20 is always named eth1, etc? Bad blocks on a ReiserFS volume. How to retrieve files?

I have a large hard-disk (120 GB) on which some blocks went bad. Now, it cannot be mounted. Attached is what debugreiserfs says. What can I do; I'm newbie to reiserfs architecture. I thought that ReiserFS keeps copies of the superblock or something, like ext2/3 does. reiserfsck says "error occured looks like hardware problem. bread cannot read block 13271040". That's the actual number it displays. PS I have asked the same question on the reiserfs-list, but it's extremely low traffic. Maybe someone here knows more. Linux and KDE Tutorial?

Hi Folks, One of my PM's wanted an account on a server he's paying me to manage, so I set it up with xrdp so he can connect from his Windows desktop. I configured it to run Plasma and KDE. Now he's asking for a tutorial on KDE, and probably Linux in general. Does anyone have any recommendations for a newbee to Linux? He's heavily steeped in the Way of Windows, I'm afraid. US Mirror Slowness Breaks TW dup Updates

Devs, I know we have discussed US mirror slowness before, but just attempting a zypper dup on TW failed because packages were no longer available due to the time it took for the download to take place. It took well over 1 hour to download update packages. Most downloading between 25KiB/s and 60KiB/s on a 300MB/s connection. Running a 2nd time picked up the new versions of the packages and allowed the update to complete -- but that should never be required. Also, there seems like there is some algorithm in place that throttles download speed. Now this could just be the way it looked, but the algorithm appears to work something like: rpm-size < 5MiB => slow lane (20KiB/s to 100KiB/s) rpm-size > 5Mib => fast lane (~ 100KiB/s to 1MiB/s) Given the slowness of the US mirrors, if this is happening, any throttling needs to be removed. Also, I've had to use Patrick Shannahan's nvidia repo to be able to update to the 6.10 kernel using the G04 driver (thank you Patrick!). But we are nearly a month after the 6.10 kernel was released, so I would expect openSUSE NVidia repo to have updated drivers by now. The patch has been available for a month. Anyway, full TW dup did ultimately work, but the is room for improvement with the US mirrors. TW is up, fully functional on the 6.10 kernel and all is working well. dracut is damned amazing! It would also be nice to know when packages for gcc-14 will be available. I know that is a complete rebuild of the base for TW, so I suspect it is somewhere in the ringed build system in some testing corner. Just curious. There are many c++23 features not fully implemented in gcc-13. The TW rolling-release is rolling right along. Good Job! -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.

Secure boot on raspberry pi

Hi Has anyone set up secure boot on Raspberry pi (CM4)? According to https://github.com/raspberrypi/usbboot#secure-boot, a boot.img file needs to be created which contains the kernel, ramdisk, overlays, start.elf fixup.dat, etc files, which is signed and you then program the eeprom to only boot from that signature. There is buildroot here (https://github.com/raspberrypi/buildroot/blob/raspberrypi-signed-boot/READM…) which does build the boot.img file, but this will probably not work for opensuse since it uses the kernel and ramdisk, etc from raspberry pi os. Is there any guide for openSUSE on how to build a boot.img file for sue with secure boot on the rpi? Jonas

Devs, Installed createrepo_c on TW and it provides a link for the old name "createrepo" man page to the new "createrepo_c" man page -- but it doesn't work. The contents of the createrepo.8.gz link are: $ zcat /usr/share/man/man8/createrepo.8.gz .so man8/createrepo\_c.8 But attempting to access the man page through "createrepo" fails, e.g. $ man createrepo man: can't resolve man8/createrepo\_c.8 No manual entry for createrepo Possibly, man page is not installed, try online at: https://manpages.opensuse.org/createrepo Is the content of the file correct? -- David C. I am looking for the sources for the libncurses6-32bit-6.1-150000.5.24.1.x86_64 rpm. Is it the built from the normal ncurses src? I have a 3rd party software package that is looking for symbols that don't seem to be there. So I thought I would build it from src. Screen Energy Saving time Leap 15.6 KDE

Devs, Just checking in on if we have an estimate yet on when the Nvidia drivers will be updated for the 6.10 kernel for Tumbleweed? I've been watching the repo for change for the past several weeks expecting an update anytime. In the interim, I've set up a local repo with packages Patrick was kind enough to build with the 6.10 patch for G04 (390.xx) and G05 (470/535) drivers, but with Tumbleweed being a rolling release, I kind of expected the driver updates to at least be within a week of when the new kernel appears in the update repos. Any thought on when the official TW Nvidia repo will be updated with drivers for the current TW kernel? My intent is to keep my TW install as official as possible to prevent random rolling surprises along the way. That seems to be the best policy with rolling-releases. I've got Arch installs that have rolled along since July 2011 sticking to that principal. Anyway, this isn't a complaint, I'm just trying to get an idea when I can switch packages back to the official repo? -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.

TW kde-Live not booting into (nvidia) GUI

I burned a DVD from Tumbleweed Live iso: openSUSE-Tumbleweed-KDE-Live-x86_64-Snapshot20240807-Media.iso Mobo is Asus Crosshair-IV Formula (bios 3029, the last one). Video card is (temporarily) Nvidia Gk-107 (GeForec GT-640). Disconnected all media except the USB DVD drive. The DVD boots and I select the top entry "KDE Live". The kernel loads but there in so GUI display, i.e. there's NOTHING on the monitor after the text echo run. I thought the Nvidia driver issue had been fixed (IF that's what my problem is).

Tumbleweed - Print help from Gtk apps? Is /etc/printcap still used? What print config does Gtk want?

All, Linux printing has always just worked for my Laserjets. I have a remote cups server that handles sending print jobs to an attached printer. This has been a great setup. In 15.4, I had no problem printing from any app, Gtk, Qt/KDE, command-line, it all worked. What is messing with my name resolution

Hi I have now run into at situation with some OpenSUSE machines on a friends network. They are on a separate LAN and a pfSense manages firewalling, dhcp and dns. Except that we have had one problem after another with the build in resolver. So I thought 🤔 how hard can it be to run your own resolver? I spun up another OpenSUSE with dnsmasq. I am new to dnsmasq but I don't think that's the problem. No grub after updating to 15.6

Unable to clone 2 terminals

Hi, This might be an nVidia issue, but I am suspicious that it may have something to do with OpenSuSE 15.4 x86. I am running the KDE desktop with Plasma. I have two monitors that I want to be clones and show exactly the same display on both monitors. I have fiddled a LOT with the nVidia X Server Settings app but simply no joy. At this time I have the nVidia app configured, so that the X server display configuration is showing the two monitors, a Westinghouse and a Samsung monitor positioned on top of each (both at pos 0,0) and set with the same resolution of 1920 x 1080. What is happening is that the Samsung shows an extended portion of a desktop with the background image and desktop icons placed there. The Westinghouse shows a desktop with no background image and is where the kicker bar and all my window shells are showing up. The only thing that can interact with these two desktops is the mouse cursor. I can move the mouse cursor from one monitor's desktop to the other monitors desktop, but nothing else. The reason I am suspicious of OpenSuSE or perhaps KDE, is that in the Systems Settings -> Display and Monitor -> Display Configuration, ONLY the Westinghouse monitor is shown and is configurable. There is nothing shown for the Samsung monitor. So apparently nVidia's X Server tool is capable of seeing both monitors and allowing each of them to be configured, the KDE Systems Settings tool cannot see the Samsung terminal. Seems wrong to me! Purging unneeded packages and dependencies:

Hi, I am wondering about how I should best go about purging packages and possibly dependencies along with what is displayed after passing 'zypper pa --unneeded'. I can use 'zypper remove --clean-deps' to remove the package along with it's uneeded dependencies or set 'solver.cleandepsOnRemove = true' in '/etc/zypp/zypp.conf'. Is it safe to set solver to clean up the dependencies on package removal in '/etc/zypp/zypp.conf' ? Can you tell me why it may be a bad idea to do this? I recently used 'zypper rm packagenames' to remove packages that 'zypper pa --unneeded' displayed on a machine without removing any dependent packages. L13 Yoga: can't resume from suspend (s2idle) unless I plug AC cable

Hi! After being suspended for a while (30 min?) my laptop gets so energy efficient it doesn't wake up when opening the lid or pressing power button. Plugging the AC cable wakes it up enough pressing ESC at the same time wakes the laptop up. Any ideas on how can I fix this? OS: openSUSE Tumbleweed, clean install Last time this worked: before updating the BIOS for the last time. Currently testing: enabling all wakeup sources from /proc/acpi/wakeups to workaround it. The 15.6 release candidate is now fixed, so I am thinking of doing a system upgrade now to resolve two issues with 15.5, one long-standing, the other occurring within the last week. Are there any issues which might make that a bad idea? If not, will another full update be needed when the final version is released on June 12?

Kernel update error Leap 15.6 KDE

I updated my ThinkPad to 15.6 several weeks ago. It went well. However, whenever the software updates runs, it lists kernel default, default extra and default optional version 6.4.0-150600.21.3. When I try to install those, I get an error "Update Error There is no update candidate for ..." However, Yast software management shows 6.4.0-150600.23.7.3 is installed. Any idea how to clear this? Why it's trying to install old versions? tnx jk

neither nvidia nor amd video

Mobo = Crosshair-IV-Formula PSU = Thermaltake Smart 600w Is there any reason why I cannot install TW or use the Live dvd with an older 8gb nvidia card that previously had used the the g05 package? I get the boot screen but eventually just a blank screen (think it's a gt640 or similar). With a new 16gb Dual Radeon Rx7600 I don't even get to a boot menu and usb-dvd boot is also impossible. The new card is being returned but I need to know if maybe it's Linux-incompatible so as not to consider another one. TIA

Leap 15.6 randomly suspends

Hello, never had this issue with Leap <=15.4. The PC randomly (sometimes after days, sometimes only after a few hours of now HID-input) goes into suspend mode: (from /var/log/messages: ) 2024-07-30T20:57:09.297900+02:00 lambda systemd[1]: suspend.target: Collecting. But that is not the issue, I do not want the PC to go into suspend mode at all. Can't find anything related in /etc/sysconfig or any file related to suspend/sleep in /etc. If it is somehow caused by the display or window manager, I use GDM and Gnome, but in the latter's setting suspend is also disabled. zypper lu shows kernel 6.10 update, but no NVidia G04 yet - any idea on driver build timeframe?

Devs, I see the 6.10 kernel is ready to install, but the NVidia G04 driver hasn't yet been built for it. I posted a patch for the G04 (390.xx driver) for the 6.10 kernel at https://paste.opensuse.org/pastes/02624819560b to update the change to follow_pfn() in conftest.h. USB headset issue

My system is Leap 15.5 and recently I acquired 2 USB headsets (over-the-ear speakers and boom mic) and as of yet I am unable to figure out how to make either of them work. I did get audio out to them once but the system has yet to see the mic, it doesn't see any sound hardware except that on the mobo. Yes, it was late and no, I don't remember what I was doing to get the sound to the headset. Any clues toward resolving this would be appreciated. Thanks, Fred
