Just a word of caution re the latest version (version 60) of Thunderbird
which will be installed when you update Leap 15.0: you will lose most,
if not all, of your existing Extensions and Theme -- by this I mean that
they will become 'Incompatible with...'.
I don't have the time at the moment to try and find replacements (if
any) for all of my 'lost' Extensions, and my favourite Theme, so I
simply uninstalled v60 and re-installed version 52.9.
(BTW, I saw that zypper was going to update TB (and Firefox) so the
first thing I did before executing the new TB was to backup my
'~/.thunderbird' directory to be on the safe side.)

Is there a way to remove BTRFS from a running opensuse system and
convert to another file system, such as ext4? I did not see anything on
line.

Leap15 - I noticed today that yast prefers writing route configs
to 'ifroute-ethx' instead of just 'routes'. I prefer using 'routes' -
any reason I shouldn't ?

Hi !
I have reconditioned Lenovo Thinkpad laptop battery with new high-capacity 18650 cells from Samsung. However, even after battery stats reset with Lenovo Power Management software, battery capacity and remaining time are being displayed incorrectly, data is based on old 2200 mAh cells, now new 3500 mAh ones.
Since I did not found a way to reset battery EPROM chip, the only way is to set minimum battery voltage is to hack parameters of either kernel/acpi or upower.
Battery voltage seem to be displayed correctly yet capacity and remaining time are not. Laptop shuts down prematurely with battery still holding enough charge.
How to correctly do this ?
I’m using MATE desktop, it deploys standard Gnome utilities for power management.
Thanks in advance

Hi,
How to change values in /sys/class/power_supply, making them permanent between reboots ?
This doesn’t work when executed as root, get permission error.
echo 68000000 > /sys/class/power_supply/BAT0/capacity_full_design
May be is possible to set it in?
/etc/sysctl.conf
Thanks in advance for any help.

I'm sure I must just have missed any discussion, but what happened to
devel:/languages:/python/openSUSE_Leap_42.3
I see only these:
openSUSE_Factory_ARM/
openSUSE_Factory_PowerPC
openSUSE_Factory_zSystems
openSUSE_Tumbleweed
Should we be using openSUSE_Tumbleweed on a Leap_42.3 system? I
wouldn't think so. Or is the intention that we stick to the original
packages for 42.3? What to do if we have already been using
devel:/languages:/python/openSUSE_Leap_42.3?

I am trying to set up the firewall for a very specific and perhaps
unusual situation. First thing I noticed, when trying to set up the
firewall was that the Yast firewall-config package was not installed.
Even after installing, I find that when I try to configure the firewall,
I get a message firewalld is not running. I can go into Services
Manager, to enable and start it. However, after rebooting, while still
enabled, firewalld is not starting. Seems to me there's a bit of a
problem here.
Next, is there anyway to filter outgoing packets? I don't see it in the
firewall configuration. I'm trying to block the MAC address from the
Ethernet port on my notebook from going out onto the network. This is
the unusual situation I referred to. I have a small managed switch,
which I configured for port mirroring, so that I can use Wireshark to
monitor traffic to other computers. This involves inserting what's
commonly referred to as a "data tap" between the two devices. I am
using the managed switch in that roll. However, unlike switches from
Cisco, Adtran etc., this TP-Link switch allows traffic from the monitor
port to pass through the other switch ports. In a network, where a
switch is configured for port security, this may cause problems, in that
the port may be shut down, if an unauthorized MAC address appears on
that port. Since this switch I'm using to monitor the connection allows
frame from the mirror port out, this might actually cause a failure. My
goal is to block any frame with the Ethernet port MAC address from
leaving the computer. While I could write the appropriate IPTables
commands to do this, I would prefer to do it in the firewall
configuration, as the network manager supports loading specific zones,
but I don't see a way to call a script. I am trying to use the "drop"
zone and filtering on source MAC address.
Suggestions?

Solaar is a Linux device manager for Logitech’s Unifying Receiver
peripherals. It is able to pair/unpair devices to the receiver, and for
most devices read battery status.
Under Opensuse Leap 15 you may get following error:
solaar: error: GObject.__init__() takes exactly 0 arguments (4 given)
The solution is to install the package
python2-gobject-Gdk
This package should be included in the dependencies of solaar.
Maybe this helps someone.

Many moons ago, when nobody ever walked into a lamp post while staring
into a smartphone, one could check the status of the ext4 file system
where oS was installed (as a for instance, /dev/hda3).
To do this, one first issued (as root) the command:
init 1
followed by
mount -o remount, ro /dev/hdXY
and then issuing:
e2fsck /dev/hdXY
(preferably) without any parameters.
Now, I see that 'e2fsck /dev/hdXY' (man e2fsck) this command is still
available and effective but the 'mount -o...' command does not 'work'
anymore.
What is the new way, please if anyone knows, to check the status of the
ext4 file system?

Quite vaguely I recall this problem's possibly being mentioned on this
list some months ago, but a search didn't find me the thread.
In trying to perform updates, I'm getting this error message:
suse-xsl-stylesheets-2.0.7.2-5.3.1.noarch requires liberation-fonts, but
this requirement cannot be provided
A web search on that error message return null hits.
Anyone know the resolution?
