We are testing a new computer and have discovered something
irritating. It claims there is a second (or more) display even though
there is only one connected. So the OS install windows are shown off
screen. Well, off the one that really has a display connected.
We do not see in the BIOS how to make the system do the right thing
(e.g., only enable one display connector). And we are a bit surprised
that the displays are thought to be active when there is no connected
display.
It seems that the install GUI is the one that gets fooled. We are
still testing to verify that.
Is there a kernel command line option that limits graphics to the main
display? Our thought is that we could use that during the OS install.

Hi,
I often use YaST via ssh -X from another computer. YaST would tittle the
windows appropriately so that it would be know that it was not a local
session, and say which machine it was.
No longer.
in leap 42.3 YaST on remote doesn't label itself. Bug? Feature?

I'm trying to use video download helper without much success.
There is an icon in the toolbar and when I go to the test page
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UDm8zTlP-mw as suggested by
https://www.downloadhelper.net/howto#how-to-verify-video-downloadhelper-is-…
and click on the icon, a list of videos pops up. If I choose one and
select download, VDH opens a window with a title and X inside the window
but no other content. There's nothing related to VDH in the browser
console that I can see though I'm not sure what I'm looking at or for.
There seem to be no videos downloaded anywhere.
The VDH support method appears to be a google group - I don't have a
google account and don't intend to get one.
I'm on leap 42.3, FF is the standard 52.5.3, VDH tells me it is 7.1.0
(and FF says no updates are available). I have apparently at some point
installed net.downloadhelper.coapp-1.1.0-1_amd64.tar.gz (my PC has an
Intel processor but there doesn't seem to be a corresponding tar) and I
must have run setup-linux-user.sh because my .mozilla directory
contains the appropriate json file. But VDH settings, in the 'Verifying
Companion App…' section, has a grey 'Recheck' button and a blue
'Install Companion App' button, whatever that means.
Any suggestions are welcome.

Hi, I think that I may have a clue about the duplicate messages. I just
examined the thread in the web ui and discovered many drafts still open
in the thread. Thunderbird saves drafts after x time and obviously these
must get sent to the gmail server. I'm deliberately waiting until tbird
saves a draft of this message.
Did I have multiple duplicates in this thread:

Hi,
For curiosity I'd like to install the tor browser. I downloaded the
torbrowser-launcher with Yast, but when running it I get:

Actually I have no idea what this means... Can you point me to the solution?
Thanks

Hi @all!
I have Leap 42.3 with the Kernel:stable repository enabled.
/sbin/purge-kernels should remove old kernel version. However it fails
to remove one particular kernel version (and subsequently does not
remove anything).
zypper -se -i -v reports that said kernel version is not installed.
rpm -qa reports that said kernel version is installed.
rpm -ql reports that said kernel version is not installed.
Checking /boot/ and /lib/modules/ shows that said kernel is indeed not
installed.
Why can rpm -qa report a package which is not installed?
Can /sbin/purge-kernels use other sources of installed packages than rpm
-qa?
best regards
Thomas

I sent this to KDE3 list 3 days ago but got no response.
Trying to copy a DVDR-produced DVD using K3B on this 42.3/KDE3 system causes the CPU
to peg and K3B to freeze. It also exhausts free RAM. I have to exit the KDE session
to normalize the desktop. If I only want to burn an existing .iso to DVD, then K3B
works as expected. A month or more ago, K3B always worked as expected, going back
at least my entire history of using *SUSE.
So I tried to use a different 42.3/KDE3 PC to see if it would work, and K3B complains
about MAD not being installed. When I try to install kdemultimedia3-mad, zypper
complains nothing provides mad. On this system, there is no current "mad" available,
only as you can see here:
i | libmad0 | package | 0.15.1b-4.1 | x86_64 | (System Packages)
v | libmad0 | package | 0.15.1b-2.1 | x86_64 | Update
I don't know why the current libmad0 is shown as an older version than that installed.
About mad, I filed a bug: https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1076935
I gave up enabling mad on the other PC and tried with K3B to copy the DVD, which should
have nothing to do with mad anyway. It too pegs the CPU and writes 0 bytes to the tmp
file. On the first attempt, I did Ctrl-Alt-F3 first to run top. On return to KDE3, K3B
had disappeared. On the second attempt, after several minutes of 0 progress K3B simply
disappeared. Third try I logged in as root to run K3B with same failing result. On the
4th try with a different DVD made with a different recorder, the K3B crash aborted the
KDE3 session as Xorg process was killed due to RAM exhaustion.
Since I got no mailing list response, I filed a bug:
https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1077190
Does KDE3 K3B DVD copying work for anyone here who has 42.3 fully updated? What are people
using who simply want to copy DVDR discs they've made, can no longer use K3B, and don't
want to use a terminal/cmdline, KDE5, or GTK apps? Man pages for cdrecord and wodim don't
have examples for such simple desires. Any of various multimedia apps I have installed which
may or may not have such capability don't make it obvious (tovid, dvdrip, VLC, others).

I have two disks that should be identical. But Dolphin say there is a
200Gb difference in file size, the "to2" (source) having 1.3 To free
when the target have 1.5To free
I just run as root:
rsync -ai --delete-before /run/media/jdd/intenso5to2/
/run/media/jdd/intenso5to/
with no message (no file transfer)
The following text is better read from bottom to top:
http://susepaste.org/98227966
fdisk shows the two disk are the same. In fact bough at the same time,
two 5Tb usb disks for archiving
the du -h show the disk should be the same, and roughly are, but du -d
says the contrary
summary:
3242684936 intenso5to
3242680980 intenso5to2
any idea what happen, and what I can do to find where are the
differences between the two disks?
thanks
