I have some udev rule that I have been using for eons. I am now checking how they work on openSUSE 12.2, and I get an error: udevd[526]: NAME="%k" is ignored, because it breaks kernel supplied names, please remove it from /etc/udev/rules.d/99-rsoft.rules:4 The file is: # # IEEE1394 devices # KERNEL=="raw1394*", NAME="%k", GROUP="video", MODE="666", OPTIONS="last_rule" KERNEL=="dv1394*", NAME="%k", SYMLINK+="dv1394/%n", GROUP="video", MODE="666", OPTIONS="last_rule" KERNEL=="video1394*", NAME="%k", SYMLINK+="video1394/%n", GROUP="video", MODE="666", OPTIONS="last_rule" # # Serial devices # KERNEL=="ttyS1", SYMLINK="gps", MODE="666", OPTIONS="last_rule" KERNEL=="ttyS2", SYMLINK="vcr", MODE="666", OPTIONS="last_rule" # # End of file # I see in the man page for udev on the complaining system, the following: The NAME, SYMLINK, PROGRAM, OWNER, GROUP, MODE and RUN fields support simple string substitutions. The RUN substitutions are performed after all rules have been processed, right before the program is executed, allowing for the use of device properties set by earlier matching rules. For all other fields, substitutions are performed while the individual rule is being processed. The available substitutions are: $kernel, %k The kernel name for this device. So, I would expect it to work. Am I missing something? [opensuse] OT: Weird random email problem - AT&T swears it is MY problem yet...........

I know this is OT but I desperate for answers............. Running Linux and Thunderbird. Randomly, over the last six months, I'm getting forwarded emails being sent to my wife email getting bounced back with her email address changed. Explain: here email address is lj.....(a)att.net and is coming back mlj.....(a)att.net ("m" added on to the front) with an error message: Sorry, we were unable to deliver your message to the following address. <mljhechler(a)att.net>: Remote host said: 551 not our customer [RCPT_TO] To me, this clearly means that it is on - their - side somewhere. And, all my server settings are correct and AT&T refuses to work with me, other than saying, of course, we don't support Linux - and - we don't support Thunderbird. On one call to support, I finally got to level 2, in which they said "now if you were using webmail we could really help you" and they kept telling me they can't help we. How can I find out what is going on ? And finally prove that is on their side. [opensuse] Advice on gigabit NIC

I'm thinking of upgrading my NIC to a gigabit model, and read elsewhere that Intel devices are usually compatible with linux (drivers in the kernel). Amazon UK are selling the Intel Gigabit CT Desktop Adapter. The product specification states: 'Support for most network operating systems' but does not mention linux specifically. Does anyone have experience with this model, or any other recommendations? [opensuse] system scripts using BASHism's but invoked as "#!/bin/sh"

I'm constantly seeing system scripts starting with #!/bin/sh which tells BASH to run in POSIX conformance mode, yet occasionally, more or less randomly, I'll see "BASHism's" in the script. Case in point: the cron job for logrotate references the Array PIPESTATUS to get at the exit value of log rotate. Arrays and PIPESTATUS never used to be part of POSIX. Also a quick grep turns up startup scripts, using Bash's '[[' syntax, such as: boot.localfs boot.kdump dhcpd dhcpd6 kbd dictd cifs monit mysql named zfs-fuse Shouldn't these scripts be invoked as #!/bin/bash? Maybe some of them run because they are invoked as bash -c <script>, but it seems problematic to state that it is to be used with #!/bin/sh at the top of a script but be using "Bashism's" in the script. On my own system, I change the line at the top to say #!/bin/bash if the script uses Bash syntax. [opensuse] Linux Compatible All-in-one (printer/copier)

Our Lexmark printer has died an early death. The drivers were slow and fragile, so I will not be replacing it with another Lexmark. Recommendations or sites with Linux compatibility info wanted. We need one that does photocopies and printing. No landline so fax is useless. Scanner might be nice, but Linux support has been so sparse for the scanner in All-in-One, we don't bother. [opensuse] python2.7 debuginfo?

I had a crash of the Symantik touchpad manager but I cannot send in a crash report with the crash reporting assistant because I do not have the debuginfo for Python2.7 installed. I cannot find the debuginfo package in the list of repositories YaST2 is currently configured to use. What repository do I need to install or where do I find this package?
