[opensuse] Installing 12.1 Beta

I have tried to install the beta version. Unfortunately all I get after the installer copied all the files and tried to reboot: Starting YaSt2 error: can't create transaction lock on /var/lib/rpm/.rpm.lock (No such file or directory). Therefore installation does not finish and the system does not work at all... [opensuse] BlueTooth not working Atheros 3010 chip

ref: opensuse 11.4 Asus P8P67 Pro mobo with Atheros 3010 chip. Problem: Unable to create BT device. Chip is recognized. Ubuntu CD works well. If first, I load Ubuntu then I do a soft reboot to opensuse, then everything works well. The Atheros chip that is in this mobo does not have a flash memory therefore the firmware has to be loaded after a hard reboot. It seems openseuse is unable to load the firmware while ubuntu is not. If Ubuntu loads the firmware and I do a soft reboot to opensue then is OK. Opensuse: 1. has the correct firmware in /lib/firmware/ath3k-1.fw 2. has the firmwareloader /usr/src/linux-2.6.37.6-0.7/drivers/bluetooth/ath3k.c 3. It recognizes the chip # dmesg | grep Bluetooth [ 11.843197] Bluetooth: Atheros AR30xx firmware driver ver 1.0 4. It does not create the device # hcitool dev Devices: Any ideas where should I go? A perfect fit between printer and screen is not possible. > Anyway, there are methods to adjust the way colors are displayed/printed with color profiles. > I'm not familiar with their use, but if you ask google for "color profile", "ICC profile", "color management" you should get the needed information. > ** adjusting monitor-side ** Most monitors these days allow colour calibrating. You access this by using the buttons on the monitor itself, there is usually a "colour" menu somewhere. Simply adjust until it matches your printout. Adjustments can also be made at software level. In KDE, open "System Settings", then under "Hardware" click "Display and Monitor", then select "Gamma", and pick "RGB Scale" from the drop-down menu. Something similar probably exists in Gnome. ** adjusting printer-side ** Try the "Advanced" or "Properties" tab when printing (the name depends on the application you are printing from). The settings you see there will depend on the specific printer you have; mine shows options to adjust Red, Green, Blue, Contrast, Saturation, and Brightness (Brother DCP-9045CDN). Good luck! [opensuse] bash -- Where in the heck are "^M...80 spaces...^M" getting written by tee?? (can I catch it?)

Guys, This is baffling... another rankinism... I get that this is a carriage return in the file and it is usually associated with dos/unix editing of files, but I can't tell if I'm causing it or if it is just dvgrab. If I output sdtout/stderr to a terminal all looks good, but when I check the log file, I have two spaces between every line. The script I'm using is straight forward. 2 temporary files are written to get the information in the order I want it, and the information is then appended to a log file and a tape index: <snip> # initialize vars and files tmpfn=/tmp/dvtmp.log tmpapp=/tmp/dvapp.log :>$tmpfn :>$tmpapp # write stuff echo -e "\nTape: $tapect -- \n" >> $tmpapp echo -e "\nCapture Started: $(date '+%b %e %T')\n" | tee -a $tmpfn # this is the command that is giving me garbage dvgrab -rewind -timestamp -autosplit=3600 -format raw dcrv- 2>&1 | tee -a $tmpfn dvcont rewind # append capture log cat $tmpfn >> /dat_e/dv/capture.log # get list and append dvgrab log to bottom ls -l >> $tmpapp cat $tmpfn >> $tmpapp # add all that stuff to the tape index cat $tmpapp >>/dat_e/dv/tape-idx.txt I can't see where I'm causing the carriage returns and 80 spaces to get appended to the dvgrab output... It could be me, but I can't see it! Anybody else see anything wrong with the tee call or anything else that could be causing it? Other than me doing something dumb, it looks like it is just dvgrab spitting out 'a carriage return + 80 spaces + another carriage return' with every dv clip it processes... If it is dvgrab, then is there a way I can have bash strip this info before it gets written to the files? The terminal does it by default evidently, because the output I get from stdout/stderr looks correct in konsole, so can I pipe the output through something (hopefully lighter than sed) that would strip it before I pipe it to tee? -- David C. [opensuse] Where to get Firefox 5?

Hi fellow foxers; Does anyone know where I can get an rpm for the REAL Firefox 5? Every link I've followed brings me FF 6 even when the rpm name says it's ver 5. Want to revert back to version 5.
