http://www.mandrake.tips.4.free.fr/opensuse10.3.review.html should be
MUST READING for management at Novell and at openSuSE.org. It is
eminently fair and for the most part, accurate. I think any
inaccuracies could be attributable to unfamiliarity rather than bias.
If this reviewer hadn't been what I would call a 'Power-user', and had
instead been someone converting from Windows, not only would they
probably not have had a successful install, but would have an article
that Microsoft would probably have printed in full page ads throughout
the world. As it is, it should wake up Senior Management in SuSE.

I have a laptop that uses wireless controlled by Network Manager. (11.2
RC1 - and it seems to be working again!)
If I want to keep time in sync with ntp, it seems that the network must
be up when booting. Which is not the case with Network Manager. How does
one get ntp working when using Network Manager. I suspect there are
other network services that do not function. But I am interested
specifically in ntp.

According to http://lartc.org/howto, tc (traffic control) does not yet
support ipv6 filtering.
This has the potential to be a significant problem. I use
tc/wondershaper to reserve upstream bandwidth for VoIP, but I guess I
won't be having enough IPv6 traffic (for a while) for it to cause a
real problem.

Listmates,
I suspect that the 10.3 repositories have been deleted with 10.3 reaching
EOL, but I thought I would get the official word. So what's the story? Are the
10.3 build service repositories gone for good or have they been moved to
another location in the old repositories directory like 9.3-10.2?
The error on refresh that makes me curious is:

Guys,
I'm out of ideas. I installed a font in kde4 and it replaced my normal monospace font. I have looked all over trying to find out where the mapping of the actual font to monospace is done and I can't find it. I have found longs of things that map Korean, fonts to XYZ, etc.. but not the actual place where the mapping of font X into the monospace label is done. I've tried with locate, find, grep you name it, but still no joy. I've checked:
/usr/share/kde4/..
/usr/share/font-config
/usr/share/font
/etc/font
/etc/sysconfig/font
and probably some other places I can't recall, but I'm still stumped. Anybody know where this mapping is made?

I had an HD crash so I decided that I would install 11.1 x 64 on my system. I
have not had problems with sound until now, not sure how to proceed.
System is a Dell C521 w/Amd-64 cpu, 6g ram. Os is 11.1 with w/updates,
KDE Version 4.1.3 (KDE 4.1.3) "release 4.10.4", Sound is listed as MCP51
High Defination Audio (I believe its an intel audio chip).
Any ideas on where or what to do?
Thanks, Mike.

Hello list members:
I have a problem using ssh in opensuse 11.1. The latest kernel is installed: 2.6.27.37-0.1-default.
The symptom is: when I run ssh I don't get any response or error message. I have to kill ssh with ctrl-c.
Eg.:
> ssh -l username target.machine.address
Nothing happens, neither connection occurs nor error message is given.
I can ssh to the same machine (ie. target.machine.address) from opensuse 10.3 with the same command.
How could I diagnose this? What can be the problem?
Thanks,
Istvan

Guys,
Will we still have beagle on 11.2 or will strigi take it's place? Currently
the kde4 help system isn't working on my box, because I got rid of beagle (or
at least that's that I think is the problem with the help system). That
prompted the question, "What index/search backend will 11.2 utilize for kde4
help/etc...?" Still beagle?

I am brushing up my C coding capability ... if any (???)
I started up with a stand-alone simple program (see attachment) hich I compile through one simple command line.
The compiler cannot resolve the include statement about elements that belong to glib, no matter how I reshuffle such statements (error messages pasted at the bottom of this message).
Since an assistant professor and I installed the glib in such a way as to make the undocumented code, developed by a student who left some months ago, work somehow ... I am afraid we messed up the glib installation so that instead of having its pieces stored in the standard system files its pieces were spread elsewhere therefore the gcc compiler cannot find them.
My question is: where is the glib expected to be installed by default (as gcc expects) ?
How can I make up for the mess we did ? I mean, shall I un-install glib (how) and then reinstall it again following the standard pathway ?
Many thanks,
Maura

Will 11.2 have a Nvidia repository? I have RC2 KDE live running from a USB
stick and no Nvidia repo shows. Yast doesn't show anything about screen
resolution either and I'm stuck at 800x600 using sax2. Everything else looks
excellent.
