[opensuse] switching audio cards

Hello I want to use both my laptop original sound card for day to day use and my Zoom H2 USB device for better result when necessary. I managed (don't really know how, I installed jack and a lot of stuff and it worked) to make the H2 work, but now the internal card don't work at all. [opensuse] Console login before x login

So I think it is a regression, how could I get over it? If some reason, x couldn't start, then I can't login to the machine. Yes I know, that I can reboot and init 3, but in this case I have to hard reset a running system with mounted partitions, what doesn't seem wise to me. TIA. [opensuse] How do you "roam" wirelessly?

I have opensuse 10.3 on my laptop. Wireless networking is using iwl4965 driver. It works great in my home office environment where I spend 95% of my time. I'm using Network Manager to switch between wired (at my desk) and wireless (away from my desk). Today we went to the local swimming pool which has unsecure wireless. I could not figure out how to connect. With my wife's laptop running Vista, I could easily see what networks were available and make a connection. I even tried to use the data from hers (SSID) and still couldn't get a connection. So, is there a gui utility for managing connections? Showing what's available and making connections? [opensuse] Advice on How to setup SuSE Server for network

Howdy All... I 'm about to replace the server in a Small Office. The old server was a Dell with SUSE 10.0, and dell will nolonger extend the hardware support, so a new one was ordered. SUSE did a great job, over many years. Before I setup the new server I'd like advice on how to network should be configured. The network (like all real world networks) is a little complicated. what we got is: 1) Webhosting provider (www.genotec.ch) which hosts our domain: www.braunpat.ch. The webhoster provides "external" email services and dns resolution services for our domain. 2) The office is connected to internet via a adsl modem provided by magnet.ch. We have a "real" ip -address (assigned to the modem / Nat / Router). This IP address has been added to the Name resolutionas office.braunpat.ch. The modem is configured to pass ssh (not on port 22) to the server. 3) The server has both External and Internal ethernet cards, does firewall and nat routing, dhcp, samba, and database services (sybase) for the office network. The server provides local email services to the office (local email does not go to the internet). Each user has an account on braunpat.ch and an identical (username) on the suse server. I use fetchmail to download the mail from braunpat to the server, The clients pick it up there with outlook. The reasoning behind this elaborate setup is a bit long so I'll spare you all the explanations, and just jump to my questions: What I don't really understand is how the domains names should be setup for this situation. Webpaage: www.braunpat.ch Modem/(Server from outside): office.braunpat.ch Server from internal net: server.office.braunpat.ch? Local network machines: ws01.office.braunpat.ch? What do I put in the YAST network configuration panes? When I am installing apache on SLES10 (during the SLES 10 install) I see that when apache is picked, it includes both the regular apache and the pre-fork. Is there a command-line switch or httpd.conf setting, to determine which apache kernel gets loaded? [opensuse] Turning off OpenSSH password authenication

I've updated my firewall to OpenSUSE v11.0. I'm trying to disable password authentication, without much luck. I've set passwordauthenitication to no in sshd_config, but I can still log in using a password. [opensuse] tomcat strange jar file names

Hello, Under opensuse 10.3 I have tomcat 5.5 and eclipse from official repo and also Sysdeo eclipse plugin from http://www.eclipsetotale.com/tomcatPlugin.html#A5 Sysdeo plugin seems to be configured correctly - I can start/stop tomcat service from eclipse, but when I create tomcat project, it fails to build due to "missing required library" errors. The thing is that created project has dependency pointing to some tomcat's jars - for example: TOMCAT_HOME/common/lib/jasper-runtime.jar TOMCAT_HOME eclipse variable points to /usr/share/tomcat55 I have directory /usr/share/tomcat55/common/lib/ and some jars inside, but they look rather strange: ls /usr/share/tomcat55/common/lib [ant].jar [jasper55-compiler].jar [jta].jar [commons-collections].jar [jasper55-runtime].jar [mx4j][mx4j].jar [commons-dbcp].jar [javamail].jar naming-factory.jar [commons-el].jar [jdbc-stdext].jar naming-resources.jar [commons-logging-api].jar [jdtcore].jar [servlet].jar [commons-pool].jar [jndi].jar [jaf].jar [jsp].jar They all are symlinks to jars in another location, but their names seem to be a bit strange - what is the use of putting those '[' and ']' symbols around the jar's name? Sorry, I don't have an eee, so I couldn't tell you how to get networking up and running, but maybe someone else on the list has more experience with that.
