SuSE 10.0 hangs on shutdown

Hi all, I installed SuSE 10.0 x86 on my desktop computer which was previously running SuSE 9.1 Professional. Everything is working fine except that the system hangs everytime during shutdown. The last message displayed on the screen is "Sending all processes the KILL signal...". I have to hard-reset the machine to un-freeze it, which of course means an unclean root filesystem. SuSE 9.1 Pro did not exhibit this problem before. Anyone else have this problem? Any hints to how to solve this problem? OpenSuSE issue witht Xgl + compiz and KDE

hello all, I have one complaint about the Xgl + compiz with KDE is that sometimes the menu dont shows when you clik on it . For now it seems to happen when the Desktop have been up for some times, it stated by not showing on all clik where I have to play with it and hope that it will come back to not showing at all. I realized that menu is there but is simply not visible, I found that very annoying and only a reset of Xwindow will restore it to a usable state. Have any body is this list using compiz + KDE experienced the same abnormality? is there a way to make this go away? I had read about how Novell was planning on de-coupling the non-GPL kernel-level drivers from the system and wondered what effect this would have. I honestly don't see where in the GPL that having a non OSS chunk compiled in is a violation. From what I've understood, the GPL simply states that one can't take a GPL'd piece of code and make it non-GPL. It would seem to me that Novell, RedHat, Ubuntu and Joe's Cool Distro would have the freedom to put whatever driver they want in their distro as long as copyright laws aren't broken. I've read that Fedora 5 - which I haven't installed - has the same issue with their unhooking of the drivers. I'm wondering why RedHat and Novell didn't simply wait a few releases until a better solution was worked out before decoupling the drivers. That would have made much more sense that pissing of hundreds or thousands of end users. From what I understand - in addition to not being shipped with the distros, the drivers will now break every time a kernel update is performed. It would seem that some solution where the kernel simply hooks to a vendor-supplied driver would be preferable. That driver could be VGA or ATI or Nvidia or whatever. Isn't that what a HAL is for? So essentially we have two choices - either Novell and RedHat and Ubuntu and whomever decide how to put working Non-GPL drivers into the distribution so that we can have our eye-candy or Linux will be forever relegated to the server farm. no xpm since KDE 3.5.1

Hello everybody I just updated KDE to 3.5.1 with Yast and since then xpm images are not displayed anymore, konqueror cannot show them anymore and so some icons on my dektop, the minimize, close etc. buttons in the windows are not visable anymore and in Yast the icons for "installed", "update" etc. don't show... What have I broken / missed? can you help me, please? Types.h Possible Bug?

Greetings, I am witnessing a conflict of opinions between /usr/include/sys/types.h and /usr/include/linux/types.h while trying to build a program with gcc (aireplay-ng). It appears that when the /usr/include/sys/types.h header is referenced make fails with errors that the type definitions are already defined (and different) within /usr/include/linux/types.h. Which header is correctly defining the data types? linux/types.h or sys/types.h ... why do they differ? This is occuring on a fully patched OpenSUSE 10.1 box. uname -r output 2.6.16.13-4-default. I have appended the compile failure below, but am not sure how to submit this as a bug (if it is a bug), as gcc bugs are preferred to exclude the headers, but it appears the headers may be the issue. Has anyone else experienced this? How should I proceed? KVM switch?

I'm thinking of getting a GCS78 8-port KVM switch from Iogear. http://www.iogear.com/main.php?loc=product&Item=GCS78KIT&name=8-Port%20KVM%… Anyone have any first hand knowledge of the company or the switch. I'm going to have a mix of Windows and SUSE behind the switch. I'm hoping it will handle the mouse well enough that I can run X occasionally behind it, but I can live with CLI only.
