Palm Tungsten TX and SuSE 10.0?

Hi all, I'm currently trying to get a Palm Tungsten TX to sync with a SuSE 10.0 system. I have used other Palms successfully with this very machine (m5xx, Vx, Tungsten E2, Tungsten T), but the Tungsten TX is a no go so far. I have a custom udev rule on the machine, as suggested in http://www.clasohm.com/blog/one-entry?entry_id=12096 This rule works great for all Palms mentioned above - except the TX... For some odd reasons, the /dev/pilot link gets created as soon as the TX is connected (contrary to my E2, where /dev/pilot only exists while synching) and it is not released when the TX is removed. Also, the permissions used in the udev rule are ignored. So far, I have no idea why - when looking at the output of "cat /proc/bus/usb/devices", I can see no significant difference between the E2 and the TX. Is there anybody out there who succeeded in syncing one of these beasts? According to the KPilot web site, it should be possible - at least someone seemingly succeeded under Debian... where do I control the logging from ZMD ?

The logging from zmd is a little atypical - any chance of bringing it under control of logrotate etc.? pdf questions

1. I want to make "real" pdf files, not just pictures converted into pdf files. I want that the pages than are search able, can have links included, can have sound and movie files included (not sure if that is possible, if not than I would solve it with links) How can I do that? Is there a program available under Linux? 2. I want to make a pdf as copy protected, whatever that means in detail. I want to write information in pdf, but I want that the user can open it, with a password, but cannot copy it to another computer and open it there again. It is open how to do that. It could be a call home function or a password depending on a hash over the used hardware, ... I used before an e-book compiler, but this one is based on Internet Explorer, therefore not useful to promote "how to avoid Windows" information, ...hehehehehehe 3. I want to brand the pdf file, like with an additional page and info on each page. I am thinking on adding at an A4 page a small strip on the right side with this info. The original should be only A4, but the branded copies should be A4 plus 1 cm info at the right side (A4 is 297 x 210, the new pages should be 297 x 220). I am looking for a function convert original-book to branded-book with-info "That copy is for Alexander, brought to you by ...." to do that on each page at once. 4. I want disallow to print the pages with the print function (I know with print screen you still can print it.) Any chance to do all or some of my wishes???? bye Ronald

is rpm the right tool for this job?

I've got a number of systems with a standard/minimal install of opensuse 10.1. I need to make a significant number of minor modifications, create userids, install other packages, edit syslog-ng.conf, create directories, edit postfix config files etc. I need to repeat this exercise both now and quite likely in the future when new systems are added to this farm. udevcontrol for SuSE 9.3?

From SUSE Linux 10.1 to a MS OS Running Kermit 3.16 via copSSH on Windows XP or older Windows connected serial devices

I need to automate getting all the files from the MS machines to a remote site to process them. But I can not seem to remember how I used to run via ssh kermit remotely. The machines with some version of MS Windows, most have Windows XP. I use kermit to talk with their store registers. The machines have a purchased copy of MS Kermit 3.16. My mskermit.ini file on these machines has set port 1 set baud 9600 PAUSE 2 REMOTE LOGIN RAIS PAUSE 2 GET datafile PAUSE 2 GET datafile1 ... EXIT till I have all the files. I thought I could use kermit via ssh to talk to the machines and directly transfer the files. Did not work. I then setup cygwin and copSSH. I am able to ssh to the machines and then I use scp to copy a mskermit.ini with the commands I need it to run. I then am able to ssh -luser 192.168.0.200 cd /directory/files ./kermit ... scp -p file user@192.168.0.125:/work/directory/save/files/ or scp -p user@192.168.0.125:/directory/files /directory/to/save/files/ and all the files are downloaded. So I am able to scp to/form machine or I am able to scp to/from remote ms box to linux box. But I am not able to get my scripts to remotely run kermit on the ms box to download files from the cash registers to the ms box so I can then scp the files. When I try to run ssh -luser 192.168.0.200 c:/kermit/backoffice/kermit user(a)192.168.5.200's password: IBM-PC MS-DOS Kermit: 3.16 4 May 1999 Copyright (C) Trustees of Columbia University 1982, 1999. Type ? or HELP for help MS-Kermit>^A^A^A ?Text exceeded available buffer capacity MS-Kermit> And I am back at the prompt on the remote box and it has not run the mskermit.ini file. There has to be a way to automate via ssh and run the kermit on the MS Windows machines and then scp the files. The only step I have been uable to get working is to run kermit remotely and get the files to the MS machine. Any ideas. I know I have done this in the past but I can not seem to remember how and all my googleing has not brought up a solutions. Any ideas?
