I thought I'd give vmware a try, and installed a 30 day evaluation rpm of VMware Workstation 4.5.2 build-884 using yast. No problems there. However, when I attempt to start vmware I'm told to run vmware-config.pl which produces the following output: linux:~ # vmware-config.pl Making sure services for VMware Workstation are stopped. Upgrade Evolution to ver 2

I have been using Evolution for a couple of years now, and am very happy with it. I would quite like to upgrade to ver 2.0.2, can anyone give me some pointers on how to achieve this with the minimum of fuss? 9.2 on a thinkpad 600x

When shutting down 9.2 on a thinkpad it does not perform a power down, which I have to do manually. 8.2 and 9.0 both managed it OK, so what has changed? Not sure where to start looking, there's nothing in the thinkpad utilities I can find. 9.2 + XFCE 4.2RC1, Kmenu deleted.

Hello All, I compiled and installed XFCE 4.2rc1 on my 9.2 system on its release, since then I've started a session in KDE only for the menu to have vanished. Removing .kde and .cache restores the default, but needless to say its annoying. Has anyone had a similar problem? I've been running XFCE 4.1 and 4.2 betas on both 9.1 and 9.2 without much of a problem, so I'm rather loath to report it as a bug until I've confirmation that someone else is having the same problems. SUSE 9.2 hangs handling USB memory stick

Hi, I've just purchased 9.2 Pro - it's great, but I have serious problem with mobile USB memory devices. I've sent this post to installation support but it does not cover USB problems. I also reported it as technical feedback, but got no response. However, I found similar problem reports[3]. Registering newly connected device consume a lot of CPU - mostly by hwscan and kdeinit (up to 97%) and the whole system becomes unresponsive for about 10 s. The same for cleanup when device is disconnected. This wasn't happening in 9.0 - does it have something to do with this new, smart, automatic mounting/unmounting ? Is there a way to change that ? This is annoying, but not critical. The more serious is that the whole system usually freezes to death when I connect my 128 MB TwinMos pendrive[1] and perform some operations like file copying. Systems hangs irrecoverably - cold reset is the only solution. That's unbelievable, I've never seens anything like this in Linux before. The first crash happened when I moved mouse cursor over PDF file in Konqueror, so I thought it has something to do with previews in tooltips or other scanning file in background for some attributes. I disabled previews in tooltips in Konqueror settings, but it didn't help - systems still freezes suddenly, mostly during file copying. This happens almost always, but mainly for this pendrive - so far, I am trying to replicate this problem using Sony MS cards with Vantec card reader - so far it works without problems. One more question: what's the status of POSIX4 message queues in 9.2 ? Is it fully operational or not really ? Call to mq_open always returns -1, errno: 22 (Invalid argument). Wireless card not communicating using ndiswrapper !?

Hello, I have a problem with my SMC 2835W card seemingly not transmitting any radio signal while using ndiswrapper. I have installed and activated ndiswrapper on SuSE 9.1 (2.6.5-7.111-default). Could there be some command I have to give in the ndiswrapper context in order to activate the wireless transmission of the card ? Help is greatly appreciated. Hello. Recently, I convinced a friend of mine who has been married to Windows up until now to give SUSE Linux a try. As he needed to rebuild his system due to issues with WindowsXP, I built the machine as a dual-boot system with SUSE Linux 9.1 Professional. My buddy likes Linux but the one sticking point is that under Windows he uses America Online, and there does not seem to be a replacement for the client under Linux. Has anyone run into this before? Is there an alternative client I can have him use in place of the AOL Windows client. I don't want to install Wine as the system he uses is rather slow and I'm not sure that performance would be acceptable. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Jesse

slow local http access

My local http access is *very* slow when I'm not connected to the internet. Once connected to the internet it's fine. If I connect to music.desktop.home while not connected to the internet it takes about 1-2 minutes to display the opening page. If I connect to music.desktop.home while connected to the internet it takes about 1-2 seconds to display the opening page. Any advice warmly received. Firefox 1.0 from SuSE won't launch

Rejecting backscatter mail in postfix

Hi, I'm receiving certain backscatter mail (ie, mail sent by postmasters, consisting of rejecting a mail with possible virus to the claimed originator, which in the case of virus, can be faked, and thus are possibly innocent). In this case, the bounce I get includes the full viral load, which is a nuisance - and no, amavis-new does not detect it. Perhaps the problem could be that postfix is not checking the sender address for existence :-? That would be: smtpd_sender_restrictions = hash:/etc/postfix/access,reject_unknown_sender_domain But that would cause a dns check for every mail, I suppose.
