I want to convert my record collection MP3 and I am looking for a way to do
it. Somewhere in my memory is a program that will record what comes into
the sound card and indentify the pauses between songs and separate them
into individual WAV files. Once in WAV, the conversion to MP3 is pretty
easy. However, it is this first step that has me stumped. Any ideas or
suggestions would be greatly appreaciated.
i tried to partition hda from my brain remembering some
thing around 4 partitions.
wrote part. table from results that gpart told me.
tried to mount.
error occurs "wrong major or minor number"
what does that tell me?
cannot even mount hda1 or hda2
(1 used to be dos, 2 was linux main partition)
Must be the sign the partition table is bad. Maybe a geometry problem,
how can i get access to hda1 (former dos) and hda2 (type 82)
partitions to evacuate my data?
"No installation data found on medium"
"Could not mount the source medium"
Previously I was alawya able to use the orginal YaST to do hard drive
installation, I was never able to get YaST2 past the above errors, if I exit
YaST2 and start YaST everything works fine. It has always been this
way for me and I didn't mind as I like using YaST. However, I am told that
version 8.0 will no longer have YaST.
Does anyone know if version 8.0 of SuSE pro will allow paying customers the
right to copy the installation disks to their hard drive and do a complete
installtion and further updates directly from the hard drive?
If I have been skipping something, please let me know, it has been a while
since I installed 7.3
my curent SuSe distro installation disks are on my /hda11/7.3
thanks in advacne
I'm learning to use CSS with html (anything to try and make an ugly webpage
look better) and I can't get it to work. At this stage I'm not sure if it's a
problem with apache (which I know next to nothing about) or my html/css. I'm
running vanilla apache as it came with SuSE 7.3. (Apache 1.3.20)
I have the following files in /home/jsc/html_public/chinees-blauw/
The css file reads:
The html file reads:
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0//EN">
<link title="cb_main" rel="stylesheet" href="chinees-blauw.css"
<table height="100" width="100%" align="center" class="test">
I am expecting to not be able to read the word 'Hello' as if the style sheet
works then it should be black text on black background.
I am accessing the page through http;//localhost/~jsc/chinees-blauw/index.html
and of course I can see the text. I have tried all sorts of different
combinations of relative and absolute paths for the link to the stylesheet.
I have checked the style by substituting the <link ...> tag with the <STYLE>
definition and it works.
So my question is do I have to tweak apache to get css to work or am I doing
something else wrong?
All that trouble ;-) and my computer still doesn't shutdown when I shutdown
SuSE :-( Only one setting in my Soyo Dragon Plus! motherboard BIOS, so I
can't change anything there. Any ideas, anyone?
Nils' original instructions before compiling were as follows:
> > Start up menuconfig or xconfig.
> > In General Setup
> > Power management
> > ACPI Support set Y
> > ACPI Bus management set Y
> > System set Y
> > Processor set Y
At least it doesn't reboot on shutdown like it used to.
We have a server with eth0 for our internal samba network and the internet
cable is plugged into eth1. We have Squid running. The server is 192.168.0.1
and the clients 192.168.0.2 etc. The internal lan works fine and we have set
up a local intranet to prove it.
If I set FW_DEV_EXT to eth1 nothing gets through from the internet. If I
leave it blank, then it's fine but presumably unprotected. What else do I
need to set apart from FW_DEV_EXT. I'd prefer to use Yast 2 to set up suse
Thanks for any help.
I'm used to configuring SuSE machines to work with ISDN and ADSL for
the internet. But, when it comes to 56K modems and Wvdial I haven't
got much of an idea what to do.
A friend of mine is using an SuSE 7.2 machine that I installed for
him. He wanted to run Wvdial on it which works fine after I
installed and configured it. Now he's made up his mind that he wants
it to dial out whenever he opens a web browser or wants to send or
Having looked at the SuSE database and the man pages I understand
that I need to use wvdial.dod. So, that means that I change the
settings in /etc/rc.config to start dial on demand at boot time. I
did that and the machine didn't connect. So, had a look at the SuSE
support database once again. It revealed a page at......
Having made sure that the script wasn't anywhere on the machine I
downloaded this one and put it under /etc/init.d/wvdial.dod and
linked it with "/etc/init.d/wvdial.dod /sbin/wvdial.dod" just as the
page above tells me to. I didn't do the part about ...
ln -s /sbin/init.d/wvdial.dod /sbin/init.d/rc2.d/S20wvdial.dod
because the page I mention above is for SuSE 6.xx and I'm using SuSE
7.2 and things have changed in the 7.xx release from the 6.xx release.
As I say, dial on demand isn't working and in spite of looking under
/var/log/messages I can't find any error messages.. The machine
connects with Wvdial manually without problems.
Does anyone out there have any ideas what it is that I might be
looking for here ? Is it the DOD script that isn't configured
properly ? Or is it a general fault that occurred with the SuSE 7.2
release of Wvdial ? I've also looked in PAP and CHAP secrets under
/etc/ppp and nothing doing in there either.
I'm looking to buy m515, but before I do so I would like
know it can do for me certain things.
1. Can I synch it (date book and other info) under linux? is there such program?
2. Can I defined certain nr of web pages which I can automatically download
daily on my laptop (under linux) using one command and using another command
transfer all this onto palm and automatically delete news from previous day?
What program do I need?
3. Can I synch my mail to mutt or kmail? If so how?
or am I doomed to M$ products?
Thanks for any help,
the gimp group hasn't been helpfull sofar so maybe one of you can help
in photoshop there is a function to generate automatically a
contactsheet from a map containing jpeg, tiff or whatever.
is such possible within gimp?
my idea is to autogenerate thumbnails of images in a map so they can be
put on a website.
They are normally present in ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/mantel/next, but it's
no longer possible to access this directory.
