It would appear that Windows destroyed the Linux partition, You should try to reinstall Linux and proceed through the step ups to setting up the partitions. Then look at what partitions exist (use existing I believe is the prompt). This might be rather interesting. I always find these posts to be humorour in a rather perverse kind of manner. Microsoft Windows x.x destroys the Linux operating system, and it is the Linux operating system which gets blamed. I guess it is a great deal of marketing. Thank you, Johannes Liedtke, I started as you suggest before trying the RPM, but couldn't figure out where to install it. I was getting can't access dir. /usr/local/src or something... on "make install" In which directory should I install it? Should I install as root or another user for security reasons? That's what I thought, but I can't find any problems: # /suse/setup/descr/info ... ... AUTO_FDISK 2 AUTO_FDISK_DISK_TABLE /dev/hda $I:/suse/setup/descr/part_test NO_ASK_SWAP 1 AUTO_LILO 2 ... ... the file 'part_test' exists on boot floppy in the mentioned directory. However, I've have the idea that the '$I' is not correct. It points to the install medium, and that's CD. So, how do I tell Yast the partitioning scheme is on floppy??? rpm dependency, where is rpmlib?

Hi all, I'm trying to load libxml2 via rpm. Here's what I do, and what the computer replies with: c344469-d:/tmp # rpm -i libxml2-2.4.13-1.i386.rpm error: failed dependencies: rpmlib(PayloadFilesHavePrefix) <= 4.0-1 is needed by libxml2-2.4.13-1 rpmlib(CompressedFileNames) <= 3.0.4-1 is needed by libxml2-2.4.13-1 It seems I need to install "rpmlib" first. I don't see it on the SuSE CD set (6.4), nor in the support database. I assume it's part of another RPM. Any suggestions? Torben

Hi, I installed the Suse 7.3 pro packages of wine on a shared drive (WindowsME and Suse 7.3 on a Toshiba Satellite). For running my Lotus Notes R5 on the Suse drive I only have to mount my windows partition and execute (but not as root) the command wine /windows/c/lotus/notes/notes.exe. It really works wonderfull. With this method you can try the different programs on your windows drive.You also have the possibility to install wine without an existing windows drive. Therefore you have to run the setup of programs with wine. Some of them are working that way,but the best practice is to run them with wine directly from a existing windows drive. Oliver

I have been following the discussion about UltraEdit, and noticed that you can have a windows program on your linux drive and you don't need an windows partition and installation. I knew that this was possible. Now it occurs to me to ask, How do you *install* a windows program in Linux? Module autoloading

I know this has probably asked a million times before... still, after reading docs and all, I'm confused by all the options one can use in modules.conf I'm using SuSE Pro 7.2 in Spanish. I can succesfully use my Microsoft USB Sidewinder Precision Joystick, but I have to manually load the appropiate modules. The same thing with my Winbond sensor chip. I'd like this to happen automatically when the correspondign /dev files are accesed. I tried with alias char-major-13 input below input joydev sidewinder then running depmod -a, but it doesn't work. And I have no idea how to set modules.conf for automatic loading of the i2c-core, i2c-isa, i2c-proc and w83781d modules for my Winbond sensor chip. Can someone lend a hand here? Thanks. Oscar Ross

listing of interrupts

Having some problems with my irq's I am trying to find a complete listing of the irq's in use on my system. Up to now I have not found a complete list of the interrupts. With cat /proc/interrupts I get a list that did not show my TV card. Only after startinting to use xawtv I got the irq recognised. My second serial port which I have dedicated to my uninterupted powersupply and my parale port are not included also. Why can't all irq's be seen? By looking at the list I would assume that Knowing that they are there and can be used, I would asume that on my system I have two unused irq's. 6 and 13. Or are they also used ? How could I find out?

[OT] conversion of Outlook 97 contacts to KAB

Hi, on the kmail-homepage I found a link to a script to do the conversion of Outlook 97 contacts to KAB called lookout... Has anybody on this list (especially sb using a german outlook version) used this successfully?
