Hi. I'm running SuSE 7.3. What files may not be deleted in /var/spool/lpd/printerdir's ??. Even if I kill a queue with lpq q the printers still prints out. Also after a swicthing off the main supply -HPlj1100A. -- Erik Jakobsen - erik(a)urbakken.dk

rpm package installation problem

Dear All, I've just faced the following problem. Situation: Installing additional packages with yast2 OS: Suse Linux 7.3 Description: Yast2 exits with Segmentation fault, while tring to use YAST2 add/remove packages. Tried to use manuall installation of the rpm package from CD, got the following error: Can't get an exclusive access to database. Unable to open /var/lib/rpm/packages.rpm Access denied. rpm --rebuilddb didn't work also. Any Ideas? Regards, Ruslan O. Nesterov

Installing Suse from ftp

Hello Have some problems installing Suse 7.3 via the ftp server. The installation-program won't find my network card (Netgear FA-311), it uses the module natsemi.o included in the 2.4 kernel. If I have this module can I make my own modules disk some way? /Jonas

help in killing a connection through a socket number

Hi! I just want some help about killing an ongoing internet connection between a certain server and my pc that is using a certain socket to connect to me. (Aside from rebooting). You see, It is continously sending packets to my computer even though I had already stopped the program that started the connection. Hence, my connections slows down :( Im I clear enough?) tnx! SMTP Authentication Question

I run my own home mail server avoiding many of the mail problems experienced by my ISP (they were using @home). Now they are hosting their own servers. All was working just fine until last week when mail being sent from home to accounts on their system bounced (my wife likes to use her isp account in the from field). It turns out that they have quietly turned on authentication. It was easy enough to fix by turning this on in my win email clients and pointing outgoing mail to their mail server instead of my own. However, I now have two questions: 1. is there a way that I can enable sendmail on my own server to authenticate with my isp's server and go back to using my own server for outgoing mail? I have set up sendmail authentication for LOGIN PLAIN but am lost on what to do next. 2. now that I've enabled authentication on my own sendmail server it was easy to turn on authentication in the win mail clients (a couple of mouse clicks) but I can't work out how to do the same with pine on my linux systems? Acrobat WRITER

I've been given Acrobat Writer 4.0 and 5.0 to install on my computer. I have Acrobar Reader 4.0 already installed on SuSE. My question is: might Acrobat Writer spoil the system somehow ?? Can I safely install it on SuSE PRO 7.3 ?? If so which version" 4.0 or 5.0 ???? Maura

Sheesh,it sounds like you're S.O.L. without a CD. I never could understand the idea of shipping a computer without the operating system CD. Oh well, it sounds like you can boot from lilo or grub. linux or suse

This will seem laughable to some of you, but I'm trying to figure out why lilo presents a choice of Linux or SuSE (or Memory Test)? The mem test I can understand. But I thought SuSE was a Linux. I'm suspecting it may have something to do with different kernels, but am clueless beyond that. Tom
