Hi: Every time I log in my kde session using gdm I get this message in tty10 (syslogd): Feb 7 12:17:17 gato kernel: hda: lost interrupt I have tried lots of combinations to configure my hard drive in the BIOS (enabling and disabling S.M.A.R.T., etc.) and with hdparm, but I still get that. And it cant be cause when benchmarking with hdparm I get could times, plus the disk aint old and has always worked fine.. It is a Maxtor 2B020H1. Another question, the other day I had a problem with corrupted minor numbers with tty[3-6] so I booted with a floppy and blew away my /dev directory and then I rebuild it using MAKEDEV (from another machine) by hand.. I obviously left out some devices... now my question is, besides the block devices (/dev/hd[a-z]) do harddrives need anything else from /dev?? Thanks!! Raul

yes. with hwinfo you get the correct info and even the module to load! But, you have to make a script to this. Of course not a problem, but maybe it is possible to use Yast2 for this.... autodetect network card

SuSE Firewall and Portsentry

Hi all, Just a quick question, misunderstanding. Our server will have a permanent presence on the internet. I have set up portsentry and when I scan the machine then it is reported as not there. When I activate SuSEfirewall (not the personal firewall the full one) then the scan lists all the ports as closed. (except the ones that I've opened) Surely it would be better if the host did not appear at all. Am I doing something wrong or is this the way that it works ??? Suse 7.2 Printing and CUPS and HP690...

Hi. Anyone with problems printing.... i can only print with the good old lpr but at 300dpi . I want my old 600dpi and maybe with CUPS but i get rubishh. Thank Any clue

Well NMAP takes about 2 minutes to run and then lists ports up to 65301 as closed. with only 80 and 22 as open. mobility radeon and x-server

I have installed Suse 7.3 pro on a compaq pressario 2701 that has a mobility radeon grphics card. Unfortunately the card per ce is not supported by the x-server provided nor by the new one available at xfree86 org. As a consequence I am running the laptop on the default ati driver which gives out a fuzzy and in all respects a not satisfying output. I was wondering whether anybody had managed to set up a mobility radeon chipset with another driver /combo ro with better results. I am running the xserver at 1280-1024 at the moment.
